You were right in saying we would lose in Bilbao.
But this season we have been poor in Europe compared to last season when we got to the Champions League final and lost against Barcelona

We go top of the Premiership again
I honestly thought we would win, especially after Rooney scored. But for some reason this season, our home form in the Champions League is what eventually got us knocked out into the Europa League and now that form has seemingly carried on. It's going to be tough getting a result in Bilbao as I think their ground is one of the hardest in Spain to get a result from. But we managed to beat Man City in the FA Cup 3-2 in January and their ground is also a hard place to go and win, so I have some hope.

We lost 3-2
Still, 3-2 gives up some hope of winning 2-0 next week in Bilbao and being able to go through to the next round. And it's a better score than 3-1.
