After the success of bash 85 and Starcade 85 Dusty Rhodes thought that instead of one show they would do a series of cards that were all PPV/closed circuit quality. Basically, almost every match had some storyline that had been started prior to the summer. Blanchard broke Garvin's hand so they had a best of taped fist match series, Magnum and Nikita had a best of 7 series for the vacant US Title, RnR Express battled the Andersons for the #1 contender spot for the tag title, Valient and Jones had been feuding forever and Cornette and the Midnight Xpress fought Baby Doll and various partners. Flair defended the title at every event, sorta. Some of those mid-80's NWA shows had some very rugged matches. I just watched the 1986 Charlotte show and it had a Bunkhouse Match, an Indian Strap Match, a Russian Chain Match, a taped fist match, and two steel cage matches and they all had bloodshed. There was no barbed wire, no thumbtacks, no flaming tables, no one was getting thrown off of a Hell in a Cell, but still a lot of rugged brutality, and I love it. Mwua ha ha!
I remember this had come out on Coliseum Video and I rented it right away. They did not include the whole show but I loved what they did. For some reason this card has been forgotten. On Peacock you can watch a bunch of Wrestlefest videos but not this one. love that they included every match.
The Hogan vs Andre match is on The Greatest Cage Matches Ever dvd. The Curt Henning vs Terry Taylor match is on the Mr. Perfect dvd.The Hogan vs Andre cage match is on DVD but I've never seen the rest.
That's probably why the video here has the random Michael Cole/Mick Foley commentary. The Hogan vs Andre match is on The Greatest Cage Matches Ever dvd. The Curt Henning vs Terry Taylor match is on the Mr. Perfect dvd.
That is definitely the commentary from the dvd. That's probably why the video here has the random Michael Cole/Mick Foley commentary.
