And I have to say that the only good thing Labour have done is to take on the management companies and their rip off charges

It's so obvious that Tory MPs all had places on the boards of these companies! My charges get raised every year for nothing. Thankfully it looks like they have made it easier to challenge these bullshit rises

And I just don't know why the abortion thing is so emotive....no one seems to be allowed to have different opinions these days

Because no one should ever tell anyone what to do with their body. What someone does with their body isn't my choice, your choice, or anyone's choice bit their own. Period.

I wonder how you felt about the COVID jab - lots of the pro choice women were happy to have people forced to have it

Anyway I'm not going to go there although I'm one of those people who loves a debate over this stuff

I already answered that one bud when we talked about this last time, or do you forget?
I always believe people should have a right with their own body. It's why I was against any form of mandatory vaccines, because if someone doent wanna get one I'm like okay your choice it's your body. Same way I feel about abortion. I wouldn't ever personally choose it if given the choice by a girl, but I'm not gonna shame someone for it, because it's THEIR choice.

I'm fine with the death penalty in certain situations. :toomanykobes

The difference between mandatory vaccinations against COVID (and other diseases) and abortions is relatively obvious and simple to understand.

Mandatory vaccinations are made, because if you are not vaccinated, you are endangering a lot of other people... ergo, it's not just a "my own body" decision.
Abortions are a decision made by one person over their own body and it solely pertains that body.

It's really that fucking simple.

Counterpoint:

Jacobson v. Massachusetts (1905)

FeL-oU1VEAARvhC.jpeg

Henning Jacobson refused to get vaccinated. He claimed it was dangerous and violated his constitutional rights. He was prosecuted and convicted in trial court for refusing vaccination. The appellate court upheld his conviction.

The Supreme Court ultimately heard the case.

In a 7-2 decision, the High Court upheld the Massachusetts law and Jacobson's conviction. It explained that mandatory vaccination laws are within a state's police power to protect public health and safety. This includes requiring vaccinations during disease outbreaks.

The Court clarified that individual liberty isn’t absolute and can be restricted for public health reasons. The vaccination requirement was reasonable given the threat of a smallpox epidemic. The law applied equally to all adults and had medical exemptions for children, so it wasn’t discriminatory.

And it’s not for the courts to second-guess the legislature's judgment on the best way to protect public health.

Accordingly, the Court affirmed the lower court.

The Jacobson ruling affirmed the government's authority to impose mandatory public health measures. It established a key legal principle balancing individual liberty with public health protection. The decision has been cited in many public health cases. It remains relevant today in debates over vaccine requirements and public health powers during epidemics.

Not really - untested vaccines that have now been proven to cause cancers and heart problems....it's funny because people on the left are usually against big business but for some reason bend over for big pharma. They WANT you ill and Pfizer brought out a new cancer jab soon after the COVID one...that's not a coincidence and these people are ghouls. In all honesty I wonder if some of these people are actual demons because they are cartoon levels of evil

And I know loads of people with cancers now - this isn't Internet bullshit to prove a point but my boss at work is on long term sickness (had a stroke) and someone I work with wife just had some sort of throat cancer. I know of a few others - I bet most people on here know people who are now sick. It's those fucking jabs

I don’t like comparing two different subjects that are too nuanced to be compared in such a straightforward manner, especially when it comes to abortions that people are very passionate and have deep feelings about.

That being said, I’m also against vaccine mandates for anyone other than children. I think the body autonomy argument still applies, even if it would be better for the Safety of the general population. Every single person has to weigh the options for their own health and the adverse risks and effects of sad vaccines.

I’m not anti-VAX. I think anti-VAXers are stupid, especially when it comes to vaccines that have been studied and tried for decades but the problem is that the Covid vaccine that’s not the case. A lot of these vaccines had to have override authorizations to get it to market and we saw what happened with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. I say this is someone that had two vaccines and a booster back when Covid was first happening. Mainly because I didn’t want to catch Covid and operated a business so public safety was important to me, but also because I needed to fly to Minnesota for a couple of things, but I made that decision because I wanted to. It should never be a mandatory vaccine, for adults, in my opinion.
