Is all this advertising overkill?

I belive it DEFINITELY is way too much

I of course speak of the TNA Impact video game. It is being hyped to the point it has taken precedent over the actual wrestling in TNA.

You go to tnawrestling.com. The first thing you see? The background of the websie has the TNA video game. Then we go to the sliding news reel thingy, whatever it's called, and the first item of news is the video game. Oh yeah, and there is a show on this week

Even on Impact they have footage (which in my eyes is less than impressive) of the graphics. WTF is the point of that? And finally, it's gone to the point in one of the best workers in the company, Kaz, has been taken off-screen to promote the game. Since I'd rather see him promoting video games then wrestling.

So what is your opinion? Has TNA not only crossed the line, but drove a mile past it with all this advertising, or is it the right amount?

I admit the Kaz thing went too far and the Who is Suicide? angle, but TNA will need to do all of this advertising if they want to compete with any WWE game, especially the looming svr 2009

I personally think it's a good idea to have the titantrons and intro as the game it's going to instantly make people realise there's a game coming. WWE doesn't need to advertise like this because they're a in house name, TNA DO! This is their first game they need to hype the heck out of it. If anything they need more adverts, on TV, tv all the time, and lots of channels.

Who is suicide is good in a way because they're doing marketing for the game that directly slots into their product.

Yes there's a lot but they need to market like this because they've never done a game before. They need to get it across and you have no idea how moronic the average consumer can be about getting the message.

So no.

I think this is just the right amount of advertising. Like ^^^ said, WWE doesn't need to hype up their games like this because they are already known by all wrestling fans, but TNA does. Showing footage of the game in the intro/trons is a great idea imo, and the new commercial that is set to debut looks pretty good too. The game may not be that great, but at least the hype for it will get some people interested.

And as for Kaz, the "who is suicide?" angle that he's going to do is garbage, I'm starting to miss the old Kaz already :(

I'm pretty sure WWE does do the same amount of hype for there games. Even though they don't need to. So yea no it's not to much. It's just the right amount to show you what the games like.

They are going overboard with this game. I mean, go on IGN and read the Q&A with Midway, every single question, the answer is either....

"no"

or

"something we will put in the sequel"

I might not even pick this up. No Six Sides of Steel, only 25 man roster, not title defenses, no season mode, 18 second entrances, no double team moves, I don't think tag teams come out together, to my knowledge KOTM is only online, Ultimate X is way overhyped, only plus side is downloadable content, which I think in the end will let me down.

They start the show with the game and do entrance videos with the game. WWE has a game and you don't hear jack out of their mouths about it.

The advertising is overkill, IMO. The game itself looks horrible; the animations are more jerky than the WWE games, and the Roster is small as hell, along with some match types missing. The game's supposed to focus on gameplay, though many wrestling game fans like customization, and the customization options, from what I've heard, are limited in scope. Plus, no Knockouts? Okay, so they had enough time to bring in Booker T, they left in Senshi, but no Knockouts? LOL. And you HAVE to unlock certain characters? WTH? Why couldn't they just do a Legends thing, with some certain guys who were in the Roster before in '02 - '05 and include 'em, like DDP and others? Epic fail, IMO.

Yes but this is their first game ever. Remember the first ever Smackdown game.

Although saying that, times have changed since then, so yes in all seriousness it should be much better than it seems to be. I'm not all that excited about it and never have been really.

I'm just happy with Here Comes The Pain:)

Well, this isn't the place to discuss the game itself...and it does have a season mode.

Anyways, they are advertising it way too much, but I don't blame 'em. It's not everday that you can get a video game made of your product. I still don't know how Backyard Wrestling got one though.

I don't see what the problem is. So what? They show a little clip of the in game entrance for about five seconds or less. It's hardly torture is it.

The bottom line is the hype doesn't match the game what so ever. I wouldn't hype the my game if you yourself knew it wasn't up to the standards you expected. Sure some screenshots may look cool, but the game doesn't have that much to equal the major hype for it. WWE has way more crap in their game and they don't hype it even half as much as TNA is doing. I think I will still get it maybe, it's a monumental game, plus Jeff Jarrett and AJ Styles are in there, TNA originals, so is Daniels, that's some good stuff.

the advertising sounds good, and it definitely will hypnotize the people that watch TNA into buying it. But they need to advertise it on other networks, I haven't seen a commercial for it at all except for on Spike. That would help getting people that don't normally watch it to see what's in the game.

You can't really say they're hyping what doesn't match the game when you havn't even played it. Save your negative comments for after you've played the games. I really don't see that the game is inferior to wrestling games out there, it has a lot of similar features and it's TNA's first game, they're on a much lower budget. Reguardless of how it measures up to competition or not TNA STILL NEED TO MARKET IT! you don't market based on how good something is.

Many a product has been rubbish and has been marketed like hell. It is to make people buy it, not make buy it on the measure of how well it measures up to other wrestling games on the market. (By companies with much more experience and money)
