TIME FOR SP's Breadown of the First Round
Let's start with the Eastern Conference:
Boston over Atlanta in 4. The easiest series to pick in the first round. The Hawks have some nice players, but the Celtics are simply the better team in this series. Expect a couple of blow-outs against the Hawks.
Detroit over Philadelphia in 6. For whatever reason, the Sixers seem to match-up well against Detroit. I don't expect them to win the series, but I expect them to give the Pistons some trouble. In the end, the boys from Motown advance to the second round.
Orlando over Toronto in 6. Another case of a bad match-up for the higher seeds. Both Ford and Bosh have been Magic killers in the past, and I expect that trend to continue. Turkoglu will have to continue his stellar play from the regular season for Orlando to advance.
Washington over Cleveland in 7. A lot of smack has been said already. This will be an extremely competitive series with two teams that seem evenly matched. If Arenas keeps coming off of the bench, Washington will have an easier time in the series. Just imagine Arenas going up against second-string guys. Lebron will do his thing, but his supporting cast will let him down.
Time for the WEST!
Lakers over Nuggets in 6. I don't like the Nuggets, plain and simple. Their a boring team despite scoring onver 100 per game. Their offense will win them a couple of games. Their defense will cost them the series. Expect Pau and Kobe to go nuts in this series.
Houston over Utah in 7. A rematch of last year's first round series. This time, Yao won't play for Houston but they'll still win the series. For as good a team as Utah "supposedly" is... They don't play a lot of D, and they can't win on the road. Two things that you MUST do in order to win the postseason. T-Mac finally gets out of the first round.
Phoenix over San Antonio in 6. End of the line for the defending champs. Unless the commish decides to alter the outcome of this series (Much like he did last year!), Phoenix is heading to the next round.
New Orleans over Dallas in 7. The amount of talent on the Hornets exceed their lack of playoff experience. It'll be another heartbreaker for the Mavs, but Chris Paul will lead his team past the first round.
