While overall very predictable (almost nailed it to perfection aside from the New Day pick in my predictions thread), I’m also on board with the 8/10 of rating. I, too, thought it was a very enjoyable and entertaining show for the most part, more so given the circumstances, thus being a not really relevant PPV in the grand scheme of things. My thoughts:
- Starting off the PPV with the women’s tag I felt was a nice touch and as it turned out, it was indeed Bayley being revealed as the mystery partner for Sasha. I still kind of feel they should have saved this moment for later on but nevertheless, it made for a good match and, as expected, Sasha Banks ended up picking up the win so her and Charlotte for the title at Summerslam will probably become official as soon as tonight.
As for Bayley, I’m guessing this was a one off thing and that she’ll be back on NXT for the time being, especially since no reference was made whatsoever by the commentary team. I mean, you would think they’d wonder what her appearing last night would mean and which brand would get her but being that nothing of that nature was ever discussed tells me that her official debut on the main roster will be left for another time in the near future.
- Sami Zayn vs. KO was by far your MOTN and, yeah, I agree it should also be a candidate for match of the year when the time comes. I personally LOLed when KO had Zayn on a submission hold and the ref was asking Sami if he wants to quit and Owens was yelling “yes, of course he wants to quit”.
- Though my only incorrect prediction, I guess it’s nice to see the Wyatts finally getting a big win.
-Enzo and Cass were simply gold yet again and it’s just inevitable that they square off with New Day at Summerslam and be crowned new tag team championships. Can you be any hotter than these two right now?
- What a horrible finish in that IC title match. I knew to expect shenanigans because Miz had to retain but this was beyond rediculous....
- I agree with both points made by our fellow members above regarding Natalya vs. Becky (indeed nothing to be invested in) and perhaps the highlight reel segment dragging a bit too long. I certainly enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong, and especially the “no enhancement needed” line that Orton dropped but sure, they could have done it all in perhaps lesser time.
- Main event was fine and I certainly enjoyed the fact that Dean retained. Unlike many, I personally liked the fact that both commisioners and GM's were outside at ringside because they made it look like a really big deal, as was the case anyway, in regards to where the belt would land.
I also found it interesting that they had shots of the locker rooms, with almost all stars from each brand watching and routing for their respective brand and it just comes down to the point I made while ranting about the draft the other day and the fact (amongst many others) that we never got to see any reactions from the superstars on the spot. What they did last night should have been precisely the case for the most part at the draft, instead of making it feel so rushed and shitty.
