You know Stoppy, you have successfully killed my hopes for Suzuki ever coming back, but in this case why wouldn't he? I get the excuse that he has to be in NOAH and all, but if they brought in NOAH guys... At least that's how I felt during the announcements. When they said Marufuji, I got my hopes up for MiSu. Too bad he didn't come.
Also, as far as Marufuji goes, yeah. He's really not my favorite. I think he's able to have good matches, but he normally doesn't. The lack of fire he shows is pathetic, always looks completely bored and such. We'll see how he fares, but at least it's fresh.
General feelings about the G1:
Really surprised Tana and Okada are in the same group, I figured if they ever faced again it would be a long time from now. Gonna be great (hope Tana pins him, wanna mark). Regarding Marufuji also, he's probably gonna pin everybody and it's gonna suck. Except for Shibata getting to the finals/winning, what I want the most here is for Cozy to pin Okada. Pls Gedo, let me have a magic winter morning in the end of July. Let's see how Tama Tonga fares for himself. Very glad Yujiro and Camacho are not in this. I also don't think Tenzan should be in, although I'm intrigued by his promo about being left out.
I hope Shibata has a great G1 and pins someone setting up an IC title challenge or something. I have seen little from Nakajima but what I've seen I've liked, so it's good that he's in. I'm actually glad Yano is in, I enjoy this geek. Also hoping Nagata has some good upset wins. The pop when they announced YOSHI-HASHI was great to hear.

NOAH has two draws and one potential draw. Marufuji and Nakajima (Nak is the potential one) are already in the G1. NOAH would literally die had Suzuki also been in it at the same time as Marufuji.
Good point. Didn't think that while I was coming over all the other G1 announcements, though. But I guess the point stands that if they were going to get NOAH guys, it could've been Suzuki over Marufuji or Nakajima.
Bringing in Suzuki is not the favor to NOAH that bringing in Marufuji is. Suzuki is considered a Suzuki-gun/New Japan guy. He's just kept in NOAH because New Japan has no need for him but don't want to let him go
I don't see why they'd think they have no need for him, but other than that the rest is definitely true.
Suzuki does his best work as the grumpy evil invader. NJPW feel that Los Ingobernables and Bullet Club do that job better.
But they still see enough worth in Suzuki to keep him under the bushiroad banner. So they sent him to NOAH
Well, that is true. They already have two heel stables in NJPW and Suzuki isn't coming without his army.
Kizuna Road was a solid show.
The undercard was decent.
The 6-man hot potatoe title match was solid. And The Elite's record-setting title reign (61 days, LMAO) is over.
How'd Koji end up teaming with Matt-O and Ricochet, btw? I must've missed something.
Post-match, Kojima gave up his G1 spot to Tenzan. Man, I was really looking forward to Koji in the G1. Oh, well.
CHAOS vs Los Ingobernables was pretty good, as well as the ME, Shibata vs Honma.
This was pretty great, btw. Gotta love Shibata.

The six man belts are supposed to be kept to short reigns. They're meant to be contested in fast sprints with balls to the wall action.
Koji teams with Sydal and Ricochet because they all three have orange gear (or more likely, they realized the belts were openweight).
I'm more hyped for Tenzan in the G1 than Kojima. This is Tenzan's last G1 and there's few better G1 performers than Tenzan ( @Bort can back me up here).
People shit on Tenzan every year before the G1 but he always blows people away. He's arguably the best big match worker in New Japan. He's Mr G1 for a reason. And he's going out with a bang.
About Kizuna, Shibata vs Honma was a great match. I mean, Shibata's selling by nearly puking, Honma doing that stupid headbutt to ringside and whatnot were great moments, but there was also a very good story. Honma started off getting beat up, obviously, because it's Honma, but then through sheer insanity was actually on equal footing with Shibata by the end (especially when he did that spot where he asked for Shibata to hit him but didn't give him the chance, which Shibata had done earlier). But it was still not enough, as Shibata reversed the Rocket Kokeshi into a Sleeper. This match also had the DISCUS SLAP, the greatest move in the history of wrestling. I really enjoyed it.
Tenzan taking Kojima's spot got me very, very nervous, but mostly because I'm a Kojima mark. I do think Kojima is a safer bet as far as having a good performance, though. Tenzan has had some very good performances recently (vs Elgin, the Shibata match was fine too), although in last year's G1 I really don't think he lit the world on fire. I haven't rewatched, but from what I recall he had good outings against Tana, Shibata and I think Naito. I could be wrong, but I really don't remember much else from him last year. Anyway, I'm hoping he does have a good tourney since he's in anyway and given it's the last one he'll probably do good. Tenzan should hand the torch over, in the G1, to someone. I don't really know if he has already, I don't watch G1. But I'm gonna try, this year.
I know what those 6-man joke titles represent, breh.
Don't get me wrong. That wasn't a knock on Tenzan, I really like him, but the dude's barely mobile these days. Working a manic G1 schedule isn't going to rejuvenate him, that's all.
But, since this year's G1 is his last, then hopefully he pulls through and goes out with a bang, as you said above.
