I’ve seen this debate come up in the past. What makes a true gamer in your opinion? If someone only plays slots, for example, on mobile, do you still consider them a true gamer? If someone only plays games once in a blue moon, are they still considered a true gamer? If they only play a certain type of game (example: only FPS), are they considered a true gamer?

You can't be a true gamer unless you play and love exactly the games I like and hate exactly the ones that I dislike

There are different levels to a Gamer. ANyone can claim or be a gamer, but not everyone is a true gamer.

You can play every console, but what defines a gamer for me is the attitude. A true gamer accepts anyone, doesn't hate a person just because they like a game, and is a chill person. You can only play Nintendo and be a gamer, or only play Mobile and be a gamer. It all depends

Also they have to have played at least one Pokemon Game

Nothing says a true gamer more to me than people who stream the current hot game on Twitch, trying to make it big.

True gamer accepts anyone? Not sure if that has ever been true.

A true gamer is someone who plays games

Do you think there is some kind of “requirement”, though? Like do you still consider someone a true gamer if, for example, they play Candy Crush once every few months?

I am not disagreeing with anyone’s opinions, just a subject I’ve seen brought up over the years and always interested in people’s takes on it.

I don't think there is such a thing as "true gamer" tbh. If you play games, regardless the level of intensity, you're a gamer.

Its like calling someone a footballer or a coder - it can be interpreted however you want it and so its a pretty silly thing to argue about.

This is basically my stance on it, however, there are some looneys out there who will argue to the death that you have to play this many hours a year, this many different games, etc. I’ve been to gaming forums before where people have argued if you only play one type of game (example, Call of Duty games), you’re not a gamer. I laughed.

Also, I’ve read the argument before that mobile games don’t count.

It is easy to spot the elitist douchebags.

I would say if gaming is your main hobby then you are a gamer.

like hunting is a hunter's main hobby.

And you tell them they're chauvinist cunts and walk away. Or you turn around and go:

"Okay, how many hours did you put in Super Mario RPG, Perfect Dark, StarCraft, Diablo II, etc." They'll probably shut up real quick because "real gamers" have a very limited scope of what "real games" are.
