I feel Momma is very underrated, or at least not as talked about as it should bc it gets a little overlooked compared to the classics on TPAB. It sucks I'm voting against so much early Kendrick too, mans just kept getting better though

Don't beat yourself up. He definitely hadn't come into his own with this first EP. I would say he wasn't even fully evolved until AT LEAST GKMC, and he still continued to get better from there. Also, unfortunately, the pre-GKMC just hasn't held up over time as rap has moved in a more artistic direction. It is what it is.
GKMC and TPAB are just clearly on such a higher level it's insane, and then the stuff after like DAMN. and the Untitleds of course as well. I feel like the Black Panther album was more of him going back to his roots though because I really don't rate a lot of it super high
Most movie soundtracks are phoned in. Tends to be a lot of cliche stuff from a lyrical perspective. Production is usually good. But not a lot of actual substance. Black Panther is pretty much no different.

I expected more because I had heard they just wanted him to do a song and when he saw clips of the movie he said fuck it and made a full album, so it seemed like he'd be motivated.
