Supposedly this film is in production and will be released sometime in 2012. The screenplay is currently in the second draft process so the details of the plot haven't been released.

It has been rumoured that all four former Ghostbusters will return with Bill Murray being killed within the first five minutes and then playing a ghost for the rest of the film. Then a group of new ghostbusters will be recruited to help the team.

I am a big fan of the two original films, I wasn't old enough to see them when they were first released but I have seen them many times on television and DVD here. Fantastic comedy films with a great cast. It has been over twenty years so it is a massive gap between the second and third film so it will be a tough task to live up to the standards of the first two films.

What do you think about the possibility of a third Ghostbusters film?

Not sure how this thing got buried.

While Dan Aykroyd was quoted in February saying that Bill Murray would not be involved with Ghostbusters 3, Murray himself revealed earlier this month in an interview with WGN (via The Playlist) that it's still a "possibility."

While Murray quickly changes the subject and talks about Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, he doesn't say outright that he won't do the third installment.

Aykroyd previously said that the film was in "suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn't want to be involved."

Murray needs to shit or get off the pot he's only alienating himself from his fans.

Or Akroyd needs to get Anderson to direct lol.

I'd love to see it get made even though I think it'd be a hand over to a younger generation I don't think Akroyd and Ramis would let bad movies be done they with Murray and the director have the rights

Not that this doesn't intrigue me, but it looks a bad idea all round.

To be honest I thought the second movie was terrible, while the first is clearly a classic of its time and still holds up well now.

It goes like this, Murray made his name as a great physical comiedan, playing slimey, yet enduring characters and made quite a bit of money in the process, then he reached a point in the late 90's where he was comtrable and decided to take his career a different direction, appearing in off beat indie drama's and once again making a name for himself. My point is that Murray doesn't need Ghostbusters, but the others do. Most of them faded away post the first two movies, even Ramis who has a decent list of credits as a director has struggled, and Akroyld who was a hot talent at the time, has had a very poor last ten years. It wouldn't feel right if Murray wasn't in it, but I respect his decession if in fact he doesn't appear. Also the idea of killing him off in the first five minutes and then just having him as a Ghost sounds terrible.

I enjoyed both movies immensely as a child and really cannot wait for III. Too bad I had to hear Peter gets killed right off the bat in this movie, wish I had saved that detail for opening day.

This franchise should be left where it is, anything new would just water it down.

20 years too late.

The second one gave me emotional scars.

Vigo must be the scariest character I ever fucking seen as a kid.
