I must say I like how Carolina has done this season. Considering they only won 2 games last season and could barely score anything... this season they started a QB that people were questioning and look at what he did. Look at what Cam Newton did in his first season in the NFL. He is only going to get better. They went from 2 wins to 6 wins. Cam now holds the rookie record for most passing yards by a rookie in a season. they got one more game but still... I just wanted to say I'm impressed and glad that Cam has had this much success in the NFL. Maybe all those detractors will shut up and realize the guy can play.

I have to disagree with the bolded statement, while Newton did do impressive this year, I honestly see him going down hill from this point forward, he had a great year, but defenses are going to catch onto him fast, as you see week 1 & 2 he threw for over 400 yards in each game, fast forward and he never put up those kind of numbers again, I could see him being successful, but right now I don't see it happening.

Well... you could look at it that way... but then look at every other QB in the NFL. Those that have thrown for 400 yards this season, those that have thrown for 300 yards. They don't produce those numbers every game. So it would be a bit foolish to expect Cam to be able to throw 400 yards every game because he was able to do it the first 2. I mean if he was able to... you'd probably have to label him the greatest QB ever cause nobody has ever been able to do anything like that in the history of the NFL. But for a rookie QB to throw for almost 4000 yards, and he still has one more game left to go... the guy is learning at a rapid pace. And the whole defenses are learning... I don't believe it.

Drew Brees has been in the game for how many years? Not only that but his throwing is actually weaker due to his surgery than it was in the past and he is still putting up numbers, he is on pace to actually break Dan Marino's record. You have Tom Brady. The man that has thrown 50 tds in one season. You wouldn't say he is on the decline because he hasn't put up those numbers again would you? No you wouldn't. He is still top notch and prob the best consistent QB in the NFL. He is on pace to breaking Dan Marino's record as well. Defenses figured him out yet?

Cam is going to get better. Doesn't mean he is going to be putting up 5,000 yard seasons or anything like that. But to take a team that went 2-11 to going 6-9 right now... he is going to get better. I'm sticking to that statement.

the difference though, is that I don't buy for a minute that Cam can win a game only on his arm, he always has to run around a lot, and defenses can catch on ti that quite easily, while Brady, and Brees can both rely on their arms the whole time and still win games, and put up numbers

Well what about Vick? Vick is a scrambling QB that can win games. Having legs to run is not a hindrance... it is an accessory. I mean look at Tebow. He isn't the most agile QB at all but his legs opens the playbook for more plays that can be done because now you can't just try to rush the QB cause you know he isn't going to run. Now you have to watch for the RB to see if he is going to run, watch the QB to see if he is going to run or be prepared to see if he is going to throw. Cam's ability to run adds to the offense. And to say he always has to run is a big misunderstanding. He fakes running, and yeah he does run. He gets the job done when he runs. And those runs sets up play action plays so much better than being a pocket passer.

And to add on to running QBs... John Elway. Watch his style of play. He doesn't run like Vick or Cam but the guy could run. He could take off and so that was something you had to watch for.

So yeah Cam's running is not going to hurt but help... it is going to enhance everything. Brady can run too though. He has a couple rushing TDs. All these QBs can run when need be. Just some are better at it and Cam is one of those that happens to be very good at running. But he can also throw which is why he has almost 4,000 yards passing in his rookie season. If you have the skills to run... why waste them for only throwing? Defenses haven't figured him out completely otherwise the Panthers wouldn't have already racked up 6 wins this season. No they aren't playoff bound but their goal was to improve and they have improved immensely from last season.

Cam is going to get better. But it would depend on your definition of improvement. Otherwise there can be an argument that every QB is in the decline and none will improve.

well with Vick, how much success has he truly had in his career? very little to be honest, yeah he's had his moments, but he gets injured far too much, and I could see Cam going down that same path if he runs as much as he currently is

Not much?

After the 2010 NFL season ended, Vick set the record for the most rushing yards by a Quarterback with 4,948 rushing yards.
On November 15, 2010, Vick became the first player in NFL history with 300 passing yards, 50 rushing yards, four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a game. Vick also became the first player in NFL history to have three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the first half of a game.
In 2006, Vick became the only quarterback in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards during the regular season.
In 2006, Vick set the NFL record for most yards per carry in a season with 8.4.
Vick (1,039 yards) and Dunn (1,140) became the first QB/RB tandem in NFL history to each go over the 1,000-yard rushing mark in the same season. They became the fourth set of teammates in league history to each have 1,000 or more yards.
Made his third Pro Bowl in 2005 as he passed for 2,412 yards and 16 touchdowns in addition to leading all NFL quarterbacks with 597 rushing yards and six scores.
Named to the second Pro Bowl of his career after leading the Falcons to their third division title in team history and breaking numerous NFL and team records in 2004.
Set an NFL postseason record for a quarterback with 119 rushing yards in the 2004 NFC Divisional playoff win against the Rams.
Became the first quarterback to throw for more than 250 yards and rush for over 100 yards in the same game in Denver (October 31, 2004).

Those are just milestones that he accomplished in his career. Seriously what does a guy have to do in order to be deemed or seen as good in your eyes because right now its like you're setting these unrealistic goals that nobody can achieve. Vick has done so much and accomplished a lot in his career. yeah he has been hurt but so has others. Lets go back to Brady... he isn't a scrambler but remember the year he threw for 50tds? The next season, first drive of the game he got hit in the leg and was sidelined for the rest of the season. You don't have to be a scrambling QB to get hurt and hurt badly. Brees has had shoulder surgery quite a bit... he isn't a scrambler.

And Vick doesn't get hurt all that much. Yeah this season he had his ribs problem but what QB hasn't had problems like that?

So really... what makes a good QB to you because right now I'm not seeing anything that any QB can do that could warrant them being even decent in your eyes.

Speaking of Mike Vick, he and the Eagles are about to shut out the Cowboys.

The Eagles have really come back to life the last few weeks, too bad they weren't playing like this earlier in the season.

Just some random news and notes.

An MRI confirmed that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against the Washington Redskins on Saturday, the team announced.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier will update reporters Monday at a press conference at 1:30 p.m. ET.

The Vikings lost Peterson and starting quarterback Christian Ponder to injuries over a span of several minutes in Saturday's loss.
The Cowboys-Giants battle for the NFC East title will be shown in prime time next Sunday, the NFL announced.

As part of the league’s flex scheduling, the game was moved from 1 p.m. ET on FOX to 8:20 p.m. on NBC.

Other changes in the Week 17 schedule are as follows:

Buccaneers-Falcons moves to 4:15 p.m. ET on FOX.

Ravens-Bengals moves to 4:15 p.m. ET on CBS. The Ravens have clinched a playoff berth. They can claim the AFC North and a first-round playoff bye with a win over Cincinnati, while the Bengals can clinch the AFC’s No. 6 seed with a win.

Steelers-Browns moves to 4:15 p.m. ET on CBS. Pittsburgh can win the AFC North with a win over Cleveland and a Cincinnati victory over Baltimore.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo made what amounted to a cameo in Saturday's 20-7 loss in Dallas, leaving with a right hand injury during the first quarter. With a Week 17 game against the New York Giants to decide the NFC East looming next week, the Cowboys were in no rush to put Romo back in against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Romo was injured during the first drive of the game when he hit his right throwing hand on a defender's helmet after a throw. He was brought to the locker room to have his hand evaluated and returned to the sideline where he tried to throw. Romo threw a few wobbly warm-up passes, spoke to a trainer, then got his wrist wrapped. The back of his hand appeared very swollen
Moving the Cowboys/Giants game to primetime with the NFC East on the line, smart move by the NFL, hopefully for Cowboy fans Romo's hand isn't an issue in the game. The AP Injury was nasty, and unfortunate for the guy.

OUCH.

I can't believe that if the Pats beat Buffalo next week they end up as the best team in the AFC, with home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Unbelievable. What a season. Mostly luck on their part, I'm guessing.
