At the 2016 edition of WWE Summerslam pay per view event the then WWE Intercontinental Champion the Miz attempted and failed to defend his title against Apollo Crews, As what can only be a major upset would see the underdog challenger put the “Awesome A-Lister” (Miz) down with the Apollo Bomb to claim the title for the first time in his career. On the post-Summerslam episode of Smackdown the now former champion claimed that he would be cashing in his rematch clause at Backlash, and lighting wouldn’t strike twice.

At the 2016 WWE Summerslam pay per view event Jimmy & Jey Uso aka the Uso’s narrowly defeated the duo of Jason Jordan & Chad Gable of American Alpha in a tag team over the top battle royal. On an episode of Friday Night Smackdown, GM Daniel Bryan called both teams to the ring and told them that both teams had impressed him at the biggest party of the summer. So much so that he wanted to see them go at it again but this time in a two out of three falls match at Backlash but that wasn’t all as the winners would be the first ever WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions.

The pay per view opened with an eight woman gauntlet match that featured every member of the Friday Night Smackdown women’s division to crown the first ever WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion. Natalya Neidhart started the match and made quick work of Maryse, and Eva Marie. Then Bliss eliminated her with Twisted Bliss, Bliss would also get the better of Nikki Bella before being eliminated by Lynch. Who managed to eliminate Carmella and then Naomi last by way of submission both times to win the match.

After that American Alpha (Chad Gable & Jason Jordan) went up against the brother duo of Jimmy & Jey Uso aka the Uso’s to determine the first ever WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions. The match was contested under two out of three falls rules and the first fall went to AA after Gable forced Jimmy Uso to submit to the Gable Lock. Next the Uso’s took the second fall after they isolated Jordan and hit a Double Superkick and then Jimmy pinned him. The third and deciding fall came down Gable and Jordan isolating Jey Uso and hitting then tandem finisher Grand Amplitude for the pin.

The penultimate match of the evening was a number one contender six pack elimination match featuring Bray Wyatt, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, Kalisto and Randy Orton where they would get a shot at the WWE Undisputed Heavyweight Championship. The first elimination came after Kalisto successfully hit the Salida Del Sol on Ziggler for the three count, next Corbin spun Kalisto around and hit the End of Days. Wyatt fought out of an attempted End of Days from the “Lone Wolf” and then hit a Sister Abigail for the pin. It would take an unintentional RKO/AA combination from Orton and Cena to put Wyatt down for the count. Cena would get the better of Orton with a combination of the AA and the STF.

Finally in the main event of the evening the WWE Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship was on the line when the “Lunatic” Dean Ambrose(c) faced off with the “Phenomenal” AJ Styles. Despite a dare I say it phenomenal performance from the challenger it would be the defending champion who walked out as the victor. He did this by ducking out of the way of an attempted Phenomenal Forearm from Styles and then kicked him in the gut and hit the Dirty Deeds for the pin.

At Summerslam the pay per view Finn Balor and Seth Rollins competed in a singles match to crown the first WWE Universal Champion. When it was all said and done and the dust had settled it would be Balor who walked out as the inaugural WWE Universal Champion. On an episode of Monday Night RAW following Summerslam, Balor would go to RAW GM Mick Foley and asked him for a rematch against Rollins and Foley agreed as he enjoyed their first match.

At Summerslam the then WWE Tag Team Champions the New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods)(c) successfully retained their titles against the Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows). Meanwhile in two other RAW brand tag team matches the duo of Sami Zayn & Neville beat the Dudley’s (Bubba Ray & Devon) and Y2-KO (Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho) beat Enzo Amore & Big Cass. On an episode of Monday Night RAW, GM Mick Foley announced that since Smackdown had their own Tag Team Championships RAW would as well. So since New Day were the last champions they would compete in a three way elimination match with Y2-KO and Sami Zayn & Neville at Clash of Champions to crown the first ever WWE RAW Tag Team Champions.

In a similar situation to Friday Night Smackdown having their own Tag Team Championships and Women’s Championship on an episode of Monday Night RAW GM Mick Foley announced that a four way would take place at Clash of Champions and the winner would be the inaugural WWE RAW Women’s Champion. As a result of the “Legit Boss” Sasha Boss being the last WWE Women’s Champion she was one of the women named for the match the other three women would be revealed to be Bayley, Charlotte Flair and Paige.

The two men wasted little time in tearing the house down but after Metalik missed an attempted Diving Splash, he would find himself trapped in the TJP Clutch and had no choice but to tap.

Next the WWE United States Championship was up for grabs in a Championship Scramble match featuring Rusev(c), Roman Reigns, Cesaro, Big Cass and Sheamus. Big Cass and the “Celtic Warrior” Sheamus the two behemoths tore shreds off each other but it would be Cass who got the pin after he hit a Big Boot. Cesaro entered the match next and laid out Cass with repeated European Uppercuts, then picked up Sheamus and hit the Neutralizer for the pin. Roman Reigns entered the match fourth and the defending champion Rusev entered it last accompanied by Lana. Reigns pinned Cesaro with a Spear, then Rusev who got annoyed at Enzo Amore at ringside exited the ring and laid the loudmouth out with a Machka Kick. In the last ten minutes of the match there was a series of pins, Sheamus pinned Reigns with a Brogue Kick, Rusev pinned Cesaro with a Machka Kick, Reigns pinned Rusev with a Spear, Big Cass pinned Sheamus with another Big Boot. In the end Rusev forced Big Cass to submit to the Accolade for the last fall.

After that a triple threat elimination tag team match took place to crown the first ever WWE RAW Tag Team Champions. It featured the three teams of the New Day represented by Big E & Xavier Woods, InZayn Heights (Neville & Sami Zayn) and the duo of Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens aka Y2-KO.The first elimination came about when Enzo Amore & Big Cass came down to the ringside area and distracted Owens. Allowing Zayn to hit a Helluva Kick on Jericho and then tagged in Neville who hit the Red Arrow for the pin. The ending of the match saw Zayn get the better of Woods with a Blue Thunder Bomb in the ring while Neville stopped E from breaking up the pin.

Yeah not so much as she would brawl with Paige at ringside which left Bayley and Sasha Banks in the ring. Where “Livin that Hug Life” aka Bayley coming out on top with her trademark Straight Huggin It aka Belly to Bayley for the pin.

Finally the main event of the evening was a Summerslam rematch as Finn Balor(c) attempted to defend his newly won WWE Universal Championship against Seth Rollins.Just like their previous encounter both men left nothing in the ring and traded the momentum back and forth and with multiple near falls from both of them. The absolutely thrilling conclusion to this awesome match saw Balor send his opponent rocketing backwards into one of the corners. Only for Rollins to use the momentum to his advantage and charging out of it and laying Balor out with a Superkick.From here he dragged Balor up and launched him into the opposite corner with a Bucklebomb, then attempted and hit his trademark Curb Stomp finisher and then attempted a pin. However at the last second the Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows interfered and caused the match to be thrown out.

Balor was helped up by Anderson and then the latter and Gallows held Rollins up for the Magic Killer only waiting for Balor to come off the top rope with the Coupe De Grace.

At Money in the Bank 2016 AJ Styles faced off with John Cena in their first ever meeting and then he won their second match at Summerslam. Meanwhile Dean Ambrose won the Mr. Mitb Briefcase at Money in the Bank and cashed it in on the same night to win the WWE Undisputed Heavyweight Championship. Then at Summerslam Ambrose successfully retained the title against Dolph Ziiggler and Styles at Backlash, while Cena won a six pack challenge to become the number one contender to Ambrose’s title. In the weeks leading to No Mercy Styles would defeat Ambrose in a non-title match and as a result he was added to the ppv’s main event.

On an episode of Friday Night Smackdown, gm Daniel Bryan announced that a winner of a five way match would challenge for the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship at the No Mercy pay per view. Naomi beat Alexa Bliss, Carmella, Eva Marie, Nikki Bella and Natalya Neidhart on the following week's episode of Smackdown to earn the match at the ppv.

The current WWE IC Champion Apollo Crews(c) took to the ring on an episode of Friday Night Smackdown and cut a promo about how he had been and would continue to be a fighting champion. He would be interrupted three times the first was by Kalisto, the second Jack Swagger and the third was the “Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin each putting their names forward to be the next challenger. Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan would appear on the titantron and announced a four way match for the title at the PPV.

The final match announced for the WWE No Mercy 2016 pay per view was a one on one match between the “Viper” Randy Orton and the “Father of Fear” Bray Wyatt. This match came about after Wyatt blamed Orton for his loss at Backlash and as result started to target Orton. This resulted in multiple pull apart brawls between the two men which resulted in SD GM Daniel Bryan announcing a falls count anywhere match at the event. ​

Next a brutal falls count anywhere match between Randy Orton & Bray Wyatt took place. . The two men beat the crap out of each other in the ring, at ringside and through the crowd. They used a variety of weapons and both men bled, no they didn’t go full attitude era or anything just a little bit of blood. The conclusion of the match saw the two men brawl up the ramp onto the stage where Wyatt hit Sister Abigail on his opponent into part of the set for the pin.

The third match of the night was a regular men’s division tag team match with the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships up for grabs. The two teams went back and forth for around fifteen minutes, and the challengers attempted their very best but would ultimately fail. As Gable would dodge an attempted Gore from Rhino which resulted in the latter going face first into one of the middle turnbuckles, from here Gable attempted and hit a Chaos Theory Suplex for the pin.

Apollo Crews V Baron Corbin V Jack Swagger V Kalisto
Then the WWE Intercontinental Championship was on the line in a fatal four way match between Apollo Crews(c), Baron Corbin, Jack Swagger & Kalisto. Swagger and Corbin dominated Crews and Kalisto respectively for the first half of the match. But then the two big men turned on each other with Swagger coming out on top which led to him attempting his trademark Gutwrench Powerbomb only for Corbin to fight out of it. From here Corbin laid Swagger out with the End of Days only to be hit with Salida Del Sol from Kalisto in turn. Finally Kalisto took the fight to Crews only for the latter to come out on top of the brawl then lift Kalisto up into a Fallaway Slam position then ran at ropes and hit a Springboard Moonsault Slam for the pin.

Post-Match
The Miz and Maryse attacked Crews, which led to Miz laying the champion out on the WWE IC Championship with the Skull Crushing Finale.

After that the penultimate WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship between Becky Lynch(c) and Naomi took place. The two women tore the house down for twenty minutes but in the end, the defending champion aka Becky Lynch successfully retained her title with the Bexploder Suplex.

The event closed out with the triple threat match for the WWE Undisputed Heavyweight Championship currently held by Dean Ambrose(c) and it also featured AJ Styles and John Cena. Given the talent involved in this match it shouldn’t be too shocking that this was a match of the year contender, where any of the three men could conceivably walk out as the winner. This match was a true three way clash of styles as you had the unhinged brutality of the champion, the ruthless aggression of Cena and the impactful style of Styles. In the end it would be Styles who walked out as the new champion after he hit a Styles Clash off the middle rope on Ambrose onto Cena and pinning the former.

Finn Balor(c) V Seth Rollins
The first match confirmed for the Monday Night RAW exclusive pay per view Bad Blood was a Hell in a Cell match for the WWE Universal Championship. The match would be the final match in a Balor V Rollins trilogy, a trifecta of matches that started out as a matter of mutual respect. However at Clash of Champions the reigning WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor(c) changed that when he had the Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) interfere in the main event of the evening and as a result it was thrown out. So it was announced that they would meet in the ring but this time they would be locked in the cell to settle this once and for all.


WWE RAW Women’s Championship
Bayley(c) V Paige
At Clash of Champions Bayley won a fatal four way featuring herself, Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Paige to become the first ever WWE RAW Women’s Champion.
On the October 3rd episode of Monday Night RAW the “Anti-Diva” Paige defeated both Charlotte Flair & Sasha Banks to earn a shot at the WWE RAW Women’s Championship at Bad Blood.


WWE RAW Tag Team Championship - Tag Team Turmoil
InZayn Heights(c) V The Good Brothers V The New Day V Prime Time Players V The Bar V Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas
At the Clash of Champions ppv the duo of Sami Zayn and Neville collectively known as InZayn Heights defeated the New Day and Jeri-KO to become the inaugural WWE RAW Tag Team Champions. On an episode of Monday Night RAW the champs went to gm Mick Foley and asked for him for a new challenge for their first defense at Hell in a Cell, and Foley suggested a tag team turmoil match and both Zayn and Neville agreed to it.


WWE United States Championship - Reigns Last Chance

The “Bulgarian Behemoth” Rusev(c) had been on a tear as the reigning and defending WWE United States Champion, having put down every single challenger that had stepped up. However it was announced that he would defend the title at the Hell in a Cell ppv against Roman Reigns. One more time but Rusev only agreed to the match with the added stipulation that it would be Reigns last chance while he was the champion.


Jeri-KO (Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho V Enzo Amore & Big Cass
At the Clash of Champions pay per view the duo of Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho (Jeri-KO) came up short in their attempt to become the inaugural WWE RAW Tag Team Champions thanks to a distraction from Enzo Amore & Big Cass. In the weeks leading to Hell in a Cell the loudmouth (Amore) and his big friend (Cass) would continually get in the way of Y2J and Owens so much so it was announced by RAW GM Mick Foley that two teams would face off at the ppv.

Jeri-KO (Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho) V Enzo Amore & Big Cass
Bad Blood 2016 opened with a tag team match between the tag teams of Jeri-KO aka Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho and Enzo Amore & Big Cass. The resident big man of the match (Cass) would dominate the match early on but when an overconfident Amore asked to be tagged in that served as the turning point of the match. Owens was able to easily out wrestle the loudmouth and then tag in Jericho and together they hit a Pop-Up Powerbomb/Codebreaker Combo for the pin.
Winners: Jeri-KO (Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens.


WWE Cruiserweight Championship
TJP(c) V Cedric Alexander
The defending champion aka TJP(c) missed an attempted TJP Splash from the top rope and Alexander capitalized on the situation by dragging his opponent up and then hitting the Apocalypse of Alexander (Lumbar Check) for the pin.

Next was a six team tag team turmoil match with the WWE RAW Tag Team Championships on the line. The defending champions InZayn (Neville & Sami Zayn)(c) and the duo of Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas started the match, Zayn pinned Axel with the Blue Thunder Bomb. Next the Prime Time Players (Darren Young & Titus O’Neil) entered the match only to be eliminated by Neville by way of the Red Arrow. The Good Brothers entered and dominated the match eliminating InZayn Heights, The New Day and The Bar to win the match and the titles.

After that the WWE RAW Women’s Championship was up for grabs when Bayley(c) attempted to defend against Paige. The two women tore the house down but in the end Paige was able to hit the RamPaige for the three count.

The penultimate match of the event was a last chance match for the challenger aka Roman Reigns because if he failed to capture the WWE United States Championship he wouldn’t be able to challenge for it again while Rusev is champion. Rusev successfully locked in the Accolade and it looked like Reigns was going to pass out only for him to summon some more strength and jumped to his feet and then threw himself with Rusev on his back into the mat. From here, Reigns got back to his feet and then waited until his opponent returned to his feet and the hit the Spear for the pin.

WWE Universal Championship - Hell in a Cell

Ladies and Gentlemen it is now time for your main event of the evening and there will be no count outs and no disqualifications. Rollins versus Balor round three served as the main event of the WWE Bad Blood 2016 pay per view. Going into this match the reigning WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor(c) was two to zero in previous matches with Rollins. This match was the perfect conclusion to their trilogy. The two men fought inside the ring and smashed each other repeatedly into the walls of the cell and eventually they broke through the door of the cell and managed to find themselves climbing up to the top of the structure. Eventually the other members of the Club Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows came down to the ringside area but before they could begin to climb the cage Rollins dived off of the roof onto both men, shocking Balor. The defending champion climbed down to the ringside area and dragged Rollins up and threw him back through the door and into the ring. From here Balor would drag Rollins up and attempted his Bloody 1916 finisher only for the latter to fight out of it and kick him in the gut then run at the ropes and on the rebound hit the Curb Stomp for the pin.
