WWE Announces Fourth Member of the SmackDown Announce Team

Dale

Super Moderator
WWE just announced that Tom Phillips is scheduled to join Mauro Ranallo, JBL and David Otunga on SmackDown as the fourth member of the Smackdown commentary team, as seen below:

SmackDown LIVE has a new addition to its announce team: Tom Phillips. The announcer joins play-by-play commentators Mauro Ranallo and David Otunga, and color commentator JBL, giving Team Blue a four-man booth every Tuesday night at 8/7 C on USA Network.

Phillips made his WWE debut in 2012 on NXT, where he announced NXT ArRIVAL, WWE Network’s first live, in-ring broadcast.

Fear not, NXT Universe, in addition to joining SmackDown LIVE, Phillips will still call the action on WWE NXT every week.
The fuck is this shit? I don't mind Tom at all but which moron decided that FOUR people were needed for a damn announce team? Three is still one too many but if they really wanted him on the announce team then they should have just removed Otunga because that guy is utter garbage and doesn't offer anything.

Who?! lol. Why don't they just get ex-wrestlers who are good talkers to do this or at least estiblished broadcasters?

They have Otunga and JBL.

They need spots for the male broadcasters because all the new women hires are doing the backstage interviews.

True, but only JBL out of those two can be said to have any sort of a career.

Otunga has been making me laugh more than JBL hae been doing lately.

Which is hard since he's on the face side of his exchanges.

What impressed me the most about JBL when he first started broadcasting was how well prepared he was and how his references would date back a little further than about 1995. But maybe he's gotten a bit stale now?

His dated pop culture references are part of what makes JBL irritating at times.

When you say dated pop culture references do you mean him mentioning like 80s pop stars or TV etc...? Or do you mean his wrestling references? I can't see how it can be a bad thing to have a depth of knowledge about the profession you are commenting on, and to think outside of the WWF/E bubble.

Thats fair. He might have gone off the boil since I last watched the product properly.
