~Backstory~

January 10, 2023 – Stephanie McMahon resigns as WWE chairwoman and co-CEO of the company. This makes way for the return of her father, Vince McMahon, to the board of directors following his removal midway through the previous year. This move allows Vince McMahon to gain control of the board and results in Nick Khan becoming the sole CEO of WWE. For Nick Khan, this further cements his power within the corporate structure of WWE. For the first time since the 1980’s, neither Stephanie or Shane McMahon are employed by the company that was created by their grandfather and monopolised by their father.

April 3, 2023 – WWE and Endeavor announce a partnership that will see the two companies merge into one organisation. The merger will see WWE and Zuffa, operator of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, combine to form TKO Group Holdings. In doing so, this would mark the first time since the 1950’s that the McMahon family did not have total control over the WWE. At the time of the announced news, WWE is estimated to be worth around 9.1 billion dollars. McMahon is expected to serve as the executive chairman for the company moving forward.

September 12, 2023 – The merger between WWE and Endeavor closes with Vince McMahon owning 34% of the stock. Dana White is named as the president of the UFC, meanwhile McMahon is named as executive chairman officially. Paul Levesque is named as Head of Creative for the WWE officially under the new merged company. A role in which Levesque had held previously while the WWE was owned by the McMahon family. He is expected to continue in that role full-time with no involvement from Vince McMahon. Rumours swirl that the chairman position brings with it very little power and influence over his former company.

November 25, 2023 – At Survivor Series, the first “Big Four” premium live event under TKO Group Holdings, the night is a huge success in Chicago. A sold-out arena, a well-put-together show that is capped off with the announced return of Randy Orton during the War Games main event. After the main event comes to a close, former WWE Champion CM Punk would return to the company for the first time since he walked out in 2014. At the press conference following the event, Levesque would confirm that Punk had signed a multi-year deal earlier that day. The hashtag “hellfrozeover” trends on X later that same evening.

December 19, 2023 - In the early hours of the morning, Vince McMahon announces his departure from the TKO Holdings Group. He cites a need to step away from the business for the first time in over 50 years. He thanks Endeavor for helping secure the longevity of the WWE with the merger between the two, and the board of directors for helping secure the growth of WWE into the future. Nick Khan would succeed McMahon in his position as the executive chairman for WWE as part of TKO Group Holdings moving forward.

January 1, 2024 – Earlier in the day, WWE host a talent meeting as several talents are off contract as of that morning or midnight the same day. Cuts are coming and all involved are told that they will be reached out for further discussions in due course. Monday Night Raw airs live from San Diego, California. The reigning World Heavyweight Champion Seth ‘Freaking’ Rollins defends against Drew McIntyre.

Now WWE is no longer under Vince's leadership...he is no longer WWE Chairman since he re signed so I wonder in this diary who takes the mantle? Will it be Stephanie coming back? Or will it be Triple H? Or will it be Nick Khan? Or will Shane return to WWE and take his father's job at the top?

<< Monday Night Raw >>
January 1st, 2024
Pechanga Arena – San Diego, California

“We Have Unsettled Differences”

For the first time in 2024, Monday Night Raw explodes onto the scene with what is sure to be another explosive night of television as we inch closer to the Royal Rumble event. Dubbed ‘Day One’, this episode of Raw airs live from Connecticut and will see a sold out arena full of fans ready to see the very best in sports entertainment collide. The main event for the evening has been advertised ahead of time. The reigning World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, defends his coveted title against the number one contender, Drew McIntyre. The two men have faced off previously at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia where Seth Rollins got the better of the situation. Tonight, they rematch with everything on the line once again. McIntyre has been on a journey to recapture a World Championship ever since he lost the WWE Championship following the pandemic period. He has come close on multiple occasions but has failed to secure the victory. After an intense rivalry with Shinsuke Nakamura, Rollins is dealing with a pre-existing back injury that has seen him sidelined previously. No doubt that will be a factor when these two titans collide this evening.

A war of words has erupted between ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch and the ever-controversial Nia Jax. While having never wrestled one on one, these two superstars have a long history dating back to the birth of ‘The Man’ persona which forever changed the career of Becky Lynch. A single punch from Jax all those years ago busted the nose of Lynch, and as they say, the rest is history. While not set to meet tonight, Lynch will compete against the powerful Piper Niven. In an exclusive with WWE’s Youtube channel, Lynch said she plans on sending a message to Nia Jax who, and I quote; “Can’t seem to keep my name out of her mouth because it’s the only time anyone cares what she has to say.”

Also in action, the craziness of the Royal Rumble will be on show when The Miz teams with Jey Uso to face off against Shinsuke Nakamura and Ivar. While neither of these are regular teams, General Manager Adam Pearce announced he wants the fans to see how unpredictable the Rumble can be as new alliances will be formed throughout the contest. This tag team match will see four individuals placed together to see which team can make the best out of an unlikely situation; something that will potentially be a factor in the Royal Rumble.

Finally, CM Punk has been announced as the opener for Monday Night Raw. The former WWE Champion, having recently returned, will be given centre stage in the middle of the ring once more to deliver whatever message he wishes to send to the millions of fans watching at home. Punk has made it clear his goal is to make money and not friends, how will he handle the new year? You do not want to miss out as the Best in the World kickstarts 2024 as only he can!

<< Confirmed for Raw >>

World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Seth Rollins © vs. Drew McIntyre

The Miz & Jey Uso vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Ivar (w/ Valhalla)

Becky Lynch vs. Piper Niven (w/ Chelsea Green)

Plus…

CM Punk will open Monday Night Raw to bring WWE into the new year!

Great to see you back booking mate, always been a fan of your work. Considering I've just recently started a BTB from after Day One, I'll be reading with interest. I'm sure you'll do a fine job as per usual. Good luck.

Really strong scene-setting prologue to what we have here. A promising beginning to the year, and with ample time to follow the events of real life and truly carve your own niche with unique storylines and original ideas. There are a lot of things to play with here, and I am very interested in seeing how you manage this balance.
