Vincent Kennedy McMahon
(August 24, 1945 - November 2nd, 2021)
Nobody saw it coming. The founder of the biggest wrestling company in the world, Vince McMahon, had suddenly suffered a catastrophic stroke and passed away weeks before Survivor Series 2021. The world was caught with shock and surprise by the sudden whirlwind of news. Questions regarding World Wrestling Entertainment's future began to circulate all over social media and wrestling news sites. Reporters like Dave Meltzer, Bryan Alvarez, and Sean Ross Sapp couldn't even begin to fathom what would happen to WWE. Stocks began to plummet in the following days, and WWE's value would drop by nearly an entire billion dollars within two weeks. Something had to give, and like dominoes, everything began to fall. Stocks dropped to an all-time low; with disappointing television ratings and sub-standard creative booking, FOX was threatening to void their broadcasting contract in favor of other programs. USA Network was also beginning to leer elsewhere, eyeing a reduced contract and a different timeslot for at one time the network's biggest program. Saudi Arabia pulled out their deal with the WWE, seeing the company beginning to crumble and fall, losing their effective propaganda machine. WWE appeared to be suffering a heat-death; it needed to be fixed... and fast. Little did people know, that behind the scenes, hidden away from the prying eyes of everyone, the McMahon family had been working in secret to counteracting the sudden terrible luck befalling the company. Linda McMahon, Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H began working together to fix the problems that were desperately needed to save the company. As it happened, Linda McMahon was a minority owner in the WWE, and now with Vince's passing, his shares passed onto her... making her the new majority owner in the World Wrestling Entertainment. An emergency meeting was declared between the board of directors; with diplomatic tact and savvy business sense, Linda McMahon was elected Chairwoman of WWE. The stock free-fall had petered out and with Linda McMahon becoming Chairwoman, they began to slowly rise again... but WWE had more immediate concerns: placating the void within WWE's executive structure, and of course pleasing USA Network and FOX. The first need was to hire a new Chief Executive Officer. Names were thrown around, but one kept coming back centerfold: Triple H. It seemed like the obvious answer, didn't it? He had experience in the business structure, and it had been that way for nearly a decade. So it was decided that Triple H would be declared the new Chief Executive Officer; this would place him in the highest position of the company. Triple H's promotion left a large hole in the position of Chief Operating Officer, the solution was rather simple: Shane McMahon would take that position for himself. Stephanie McMahon herself would remain at the position of Executive Vice President of Creative Development and as Chief Brand Officer. Then came some of the most shocking news from WWE in some time: Many of Vince McMahon's most loyal employees would find themselves gone. Kevin Dunn was unceremoniously removed from the Board of Directors and released as Executive Vice President of Television Production; a position he had held since 2003. John Laurinaitis, the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations would be out the door as well. It was a purge of WWE's most notorious behind-the-scenes names: Kevin Dunn John Laurinaitis Bruce Prichard Michael Hayes Terry Taylor They headlined the names of people released from the company, but there had been many more. It was clear to everyone that WWE was remodeling itself from within. The WWE Creative team was purged as well, and internal hires were made. The day after Survivor Series 2021, it was announced that new changes would be happening, as far as on-screen broadcasting was concerned. RAW would no longer be three hours long, returning to the pre-2013 format of two-hour programming for its major shows. The last three-hour RAW would take place on January 3rd, with several major announcements placing itself on the show, including a full company draft that will take place throughout the night, resettling the brand split, and pushing WWE hopefully into a new era for itself. |
