Starrcade 1997 would sell itself as the pay per view that would end 1997 with a bang, and a 64-man tournament would be booked with the early rounds taking place on episodes of Monday Night Nitro with the quarters, semis and final taking place at the Starrcade with the winner of the tournament being crowned the inaugural WCW Nitro Championship.

  7. Heyman would come out to the ring with Shane Douglas, Lance Storm, Justin Credible and Axl Rotten and reveal themselves as 'The Extremists'. - Despite having been injured for nearly half a year - it has emerged that the Undertaker is set to be offered the biggest contract in the history of professional wrestling by WCW. There are suggestions that Shane McMahon's financial means were involved in funding the deal in exchange for a percentage stage within the company.
