Wrestling and wrestler no longer considered ‘dirty words’ in WWE

"Wrestling" and "wrestler" are no longer considered "dirty words" in WWE.

The two terms had been banned in the company in favor of "sports entertainment" and "sports entertainer" in recent years.

Dave Meltzer addressed this and the more "relaxed" atmosphere under WWE's new regime in Friday's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

"It was noted it was more relaxed and calmer, that the women felt there is going to be more focus on them and that the words wrestler and wrestling were no longer dirty words talent was instructed to never use without authorization, and almost everyone considers that a good thing," Meltzer wrote.

Last September, Meltzer wrote about words WWE talent was prevented from using.

"Blood, choke, belt, strap, diva, head shot, trauma, kayfabe, Mofos, house show, DQ, The Anti-Diva, spinal injuries, victim, violence, violent, wrestling, wrestlers, WWF, wifebeater, curb stomp, phrases including the word “push” and "being over,” babyface, heel, job, jobber, card, strangle, kill and murder," were listed as prohibited terms.

The whole women expect more focus they've been getting a lot for the past few months. I think they had like 4 or 5 main events in a row. That's not bad I'm just confused why this is being said now.

As for banned words. Maybe strangle, murder and kill could stay the rest meh.

Yeah I was gonna mention the women thing too and ask if it was just me who didn't understand that part.

Better story maybe? I mean since probably just before the Sasha Naomi thing we started getting a lot more womens stuff. (which I thought was funny since that was supposedly one of their complaints) I mean WWE doesn't have a great record with women focus but it was and is on the mend in my book.

I'm just gonna chalk it up to meaning the women who weren't really getting airtime because I can't make much sense of it otherwise.

What's everyone think of the WWE name changes? You think they'll stick with this? I mean it's a good idea for them for the most part they own the copyright so it's better for business, I don't think anyone will walk away from the table, not enough people get upset to really do anything about the name changes. So boils down to whose idea it was in the first place.

I imagine they'll stick with renaming new signings who don't have any current name value if that makes sense, though I can imagine they might be a bit more open now to keeping an MJF for example who's built a name elsewhere. I think it will largely be a case by case basis.

I don't care about wrestler names, half the people who come in with their own sound like stupid porn names to begin with.

Shakespeare once wrote "what's in a name?"....guess it means everything to jaded marks who think they know better.

Yeah, if HHH would have taken over a few months ago then maybe the mass renaming that happened wouldn't have, those were all cases to make the names copyrightable tho so next to no chance any of those names return.
