WOR: The Plan Is For TNA To Go Live

Meltzer: "One of the things they've been looking at, and it's not going to happen any time soon, but they want to go live. The idea is to go live and have a location where they would go every Thursday. And Full Sail University is one of the locations that they've talked about....and there are probably other locations as well".
  • Dave says it would be difficult because Orlando already has NXT each week.
  • Scott D'Amore and Lou D'Angeli already went to Full Sail to scout it out.
  • There is some cost savings at Full Sail because they can have the students work on the production side and have students fill up the crowd.
  • A problem is that they're selling some tickets now for their TV tapings. They would need to give tickets away for free if they did Full Sail every Thursday.
  • Dave could see TNA doing a few test runs before the end of the year.
  • Mentality is going live by 2025.
  • Things may have changed with Scott no longer being there.
  • Dave thinks going live would be a bit more exciting for the wrestlers but doesn't know if it will help TV ratings...especially on that channel.
  • "Is it worth the extra cost for a company that is obviously trying to keep costs low? So... we'll see."

HELL IS NOT A MYTH
Would definitely be more fun for the fans but I don't really see it moving the needle for them at this point.

2013 vibes. They went live around that time and it tanked the finances

Going live is more costly, but it isn’t what killed their finances in 2013. It was going live while they also killed their only revenue source: pay-per-view.

While TNA was never AEW when it came to drawing buys, they still did around 35-50K buys per month and it was what keeping them afloat. Why they thought stripping that down to 4 a year and then in 2014 down to 3 would bring them in more money, I’ll never know, but it ultimately bankrupted them.

Don’t kill your only way to make money and then also increase your weekly expenses.

I don’t think going live with do much on AXS TV as that channel is still too small, but eventually they need to be live on a channel people get. It’s hard to explain why, but fans are more likely to tune in if they both know it’s live and can’t look up spoilers.

To be fair they had the same number of PPVs. Just, fewer ones that actually mattered

Oh yeah, that’s right I always forget they had those one night only things, but nobody bought those. They were taped like four months in advance, and everybody knew the results of them.

I wonder if those things are on TNA plus? I’m thinking even anthem at this point wants to forget those things existed.

I only recently found out they are. They're not in the PPV section or in the "exclusive shows" section with the 2018-on ONOs, they're in their own tab

You know the most ironic thing about how fast TNA fell off a cliff in 2013 to 2015 is WWE gifted them the most amazing thing they could’ve ever imagined but for the first time in history, nobody wanted to follow the WWE’s lead on something. And that was the WWE network. Cuz their pay-per-view like I was saying it was still doing decent enough numbers for company that wasn’t WWE and if they had looked at what WW was doing and emulated them in a perfect one for one matching service, including monthly pay-per-view still, including every pay-per-view just like the network did for the low price of $10 a month not only would they have definitely maintained every person that was currently buying their monthly pay-per-view. I am confident they probably would’ve double and maybe even tripled their monthly pay-per-view Subscriptions because of the value of being able to get a monthly pay-per-view for $10 plus the back content and mind you at this point time TNA is still on spike TV. If they promoted the shit out of TNA plus on spike TV they would’ve made more money than they had ever made in their lifetime I believe but everyone looked at WWE like they were crazy.
