Weekly Wrap-Up 11/4

News & Rumors

Officials were said to be very impressed with David Otunga’s performance on Raw, not only in the main event but also as guest host of the show. The fact that he made the pin in his match shows that management have a lot of faith in him, and that must continue after he performed so well on Raw, not botching once. At this point you could consider him a front-runner to win NXT but nothing is certain yet.

Other NXT rookies receiving praise for their work on Monday Night Raw are Wade Barrett, who managed to get a good amount of heel heat and Justin Gabriel, who fired up the crowd with his picture perfect 450° Splash.

The reason Hornswoggle was booked to be squashed by William Regal is that he is on his way out of the company. This was set to be his last appearance on Raw before he departs the WWE in coming weeks. Management decided that he did all he could while staying entertaining, as he was also getting less and less over as time progressed.

The HHH/Sheamus feud is set to end at Extreme Rules in a Last Man Standing match, as announced by David Otunga on Raw. You can almost bet on the fact that this will be the last match between the two, as HHH has also told management that he plans to take a few months off to heal some niggling injuries.

Regarding other absences, The Undertaker has just taken a few months off for leave as he usually does but in another revelation, Batista is also set to take at least a few weeks off in around two months or so. So far these are the only confirmed absences but there are possibilities of Rey Mysterio, The Big Show and Matt Hardy taking breaks soon.

On NXT, the WWE seeks to turn the Wade Barrett angle into a storyline. Chris Jericho is set to be a neglectful pro of sorts, which could lead to Barrett becoming more independent. However, this isn’t 100% accurate as Jericho and Barrett have been booked to tag together at upcoming house shows.

As announced on Tuesday, the second round of NXT voting will occur at Extreme Rules where the rookies in 7th and 8th place will be eliminated. Following this will be a 6-man battle royale with the winner getting a match of their choice against any WWE superstar. 2 weeks after will be the final round of voting, where the rookies in 5th and 6th place will be eliminated, but positions in the top four will be kept secret. All four men will gain WWE contracts but the man in 1st place (the winner of NXT season one) will be revealed at the Over the Limit PPV and receive a shot at any WWE Champion at the time.

On Smackdown, Cryme Tyme finally did something notable as they turned heel against the team of John Morrison and R-Truth. Look for these teams to feud for a short while with Tyme going over as a split for JoMo and Truth is said to be on the horizon. The WWE still values Cryme Tyme as a great team and turning them was said to be done to keep them fresh.

On the note of tag teams, the WWE is attempting to put a lot of focus back into the division, with a lot of new teams being expected to pop up in coming weeks. This could lead to reinstating separate brand-exclusive tag titles although the WWE is hesitant at going through with this idea after the belts’ unification at Wrestlemania 25.

Joey Mercury made his return to WWE on the Smackdown roster as a heel, joining CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society and winning his first match, although it was a squash. Obviously rumors of his retirement were false and the WWE has decided to let him back in on the company with a no strike policy regarding drugs.

The reason Kane was chosen to win Smackdown’s main event battle royale was to separately continue the Edge/Jericho feud without a third man involved in Jack Swagger. The WWE see Kane as someone who can always step into the main event and look credible against his opposition. Don’t be surprised if Kane comes out on top in the title match as the WWE has been looking to give him one last run with the belt before he retires within the next year or so.

David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd did manage to get a shot at ShoMiz’s titles for Extreme Rules, but Natalya’s boys failed to win on Smackdown after a distraction from the tag champs.
25. ↑ Yoshi Tatsu & Evan Bourne NR
In what looks like a hot new prospect for the tag team division, Bourne and Yoshi were the sole survivors of Raw’s elimination tag team match, and they seem like they’ll remain partners.

Monday Night Raw 12/4 Preview

Tonight on Raw, Smackdown General Manager Theodore R. Long will be the guest host as we continue the build up to the Extreme Rules PPV. He is sure to make an impact and with experience in the position, he knows what he’s doing as well. The Raw audience will see some of his character that the WWE Universe has seen for many years on Smackdown and ECW. What announcements will he make on what is sure to be an exciting episode of Raw tonight?

Last week, the guest host David Otunga announced that John Cena would defend his title at Extreme Rules in a triple threat match against Batista and Randy Orton. All 3 of those men will be in tonight’s main event, pitting Randy Orton and his partner Christian, who wished to be in a match for this week, against the odd couple teaming of Batista and John Cena. The real story behind this match is: will the Wrestlemania opponents be able to coexist on he same team to take down Randy and Captain Charisma tonight?

Also announced for tonight is the debut of the Abraham Washington show on Monday Night Raw, featuring Sheamus and Triple H as guests. Abe had an absence from the WWE after ECW closed, but he and his show are back and he is ready to question some new talent on his controversial, yet highly entertaining talk show. Sheamus and HHH are Extreme Rules opponents in a Last Man Standing match; so don’t expect the show to stay chaos free.

In other action, we will get to see the Dreadlock Dynamo Kofi Kingston take on the Brawler from Blackpool William Regal in a showcase match. There is sure to be an interesting clash of styles in this match, but which superstar will come out on top?

In the final match confirmed for tonight, Eve takes on Alicia Fox in divas action. Both divas are continuing to impress on Monday Night Raw, both with their wrestling and with their smokin’ hot appearance. Can Eve follow up her pinning of the Divas Champion Maryse last week, or will Alicia Fox’s mean streak lend her the victory?

Other Superstars to appear on the show include Legacy, MVP and Unified Tag Team Champions ShoMiz. This is set to be another huge WWE Raw, so don’t miss out!

Monday Night Raw 12/4

We start Monday Night Raw with some pyrotechnics before ShoMiz walks out to the ring to their music. They mention their tag title match at Extreme Rules against The Hart Dynasty and how it was a travesty that the match was made. They run down Teddy Long and call him incompetent among other things. However, The Hart Dynasty soon interrupt and say that the title match being made was entirely valid, because they would have beaten ShoMiz two weeks ago if not for the champs cowardly walking away. Theodore Long walks out and says that the match is staying and that ShoMiz are going to have to deal with it. Teddy puts them up in a match against Yoshi Tatsu and Evan Bourne but ShoMiz protest. Teddy says that to make it fair, The Hart Dynasty will be in a match later on, one against two members of Legacy. He holla hollas and Smith, Kidd and Natalya take their seats at the announce table.

Match One: ShoMiz vs. Yoshi Tatsu & Evan Bourne in a non-title match
The beginning of the match starts with ShoMiz not being able to keep up with the fast cruiserweight pace of both Yoshi and Evan. However, dirty tactics from The Miz allow The Big Show to use his strength to begin to throw his opponents around. A face comeback later and the fan favourites are back in control, but when Show distracts the referee Miz lands simultaneous low blows to Yoshi and Evan. TBS lifts them for a Double Chokeslam but suddenly Natalya hops up on the apron and begins to avert his attention. Show drops Yoshi and Evan and walks over to Natalya, who quickly walks back to her boys. The World’s Largest Athlete turns around right into a big Roundhouse Kick from Yoshi Tatsu! Yoshi dropkicks Miz off the apron as the legal man in Evan Bourne then hits the Air Bourne on Show and pins him for the three count! The humbled Unified Tag Team Champions retreat after the match as Yoshi and Evan celebrate their first victory as a tag team with The Hart Dynasty.
Winners: Yoshi Tatsu & Evan Bourne (6:43)

We go backstage to where Christian is warming up. Randy Orton approaches him to a loud mixed reaction, though it is comprised mostly of cheers. Orton tells Christian not to get in his way tonight but Captain Charisma smirks and says that he will outshine the three others in the match and prove to tonight’s guest host that he deserves to be in the title picture. Orton says that the two don’t have a problem with each other, so they shouldn’t create one. Christian shrugs as Orton impatiently walks off.

Match Two: William Regal vs. Kofi Kingston
This is a pretty much random midcard match that is thrown together to feature both guys on the show. It goes back and forth for a good while until the finish where Regal’s NXT Rookie Skip Sheffield distracts the referee as Regal uses his brass knuckles to hit Kofi with the Power of the Punch. He then puts a KO’d Kofi in the Regal Stretch but he is already incapacitated and unable to tap out, forcing the referee to ring the bell. Regal celebrates with Sheffield after the match, with the crowd booing rather viciously.
Winner: William Regal (4:02)

We go backstage to where Legacy is and they discuss the announcement that two of them will be taking on The Hart Dynasty later on tonight. Rhodes and DiBiase agree that Hennig should get a spot in the match due to him needing some match time to make a debut on Raw but they are undecided on who his partner should be. They let Hennig decide and after some contemplation he chooses DiBiase, leaving Rhodes slightly dejected.

We go to a recap of what happened last week with David Otunga as host. We are shown his announcements of ShoMiz vs. Morrison & Truth and that very match, in which the titles were retained. We see highlights of the 7 on 7 tag team match with NXT rookies taking on Raw superstars, and the Raw stars winning. We then see Sheamus vs. Triple H ending in a no contest and Otunga making a Last Man Standing match for Extreme Rules. Finally, we go to the night’s main event where Cena and Otunga teamed up to defeat Batista and Randy Orton after Orton laid out his partner with an RKO. The show ended with Cena nailing Orton with the Attitude Adjustment and celebrating with the WWE title. We are then told that next week’s host will be none other than John Bradshaw Layfield, JBL.

Match Three: Alicia Fox vs. Eve
In a standard divas match, both of the women scream and squeal and make other slightly sexual noises during this bout. Alicia tries to use her kicks and some hair pulling to gain an advantage, but Eve eventually turns the momentum around and puts Fox away after a missile dropkick and her signature Backflip Reverse DDT.
Winner: Eve (3:20)

As Eve celebrates, the Divas Champion Maryse sneaks into the ring behind her. She attacks her by nailing her in the back of the head with her title belt as the crowd begins to boo. Maryse lifts Eve up for the French Kiss DDT but Eve manages to wriggle out and take Maryse down with a dropkick! The Divas Champion flees and begins to retreat up the ramp but then Teddy Long appears and says that Eve will take on Maryse in a non title match next week where if she wins, she is the #1 contender for the Divas Championship!

We go backstage to where Batista is with interviewer Josh Matthews. He bitches about not getting a 1 on 1 match for his rematch and says it is unfair that Randy Orton was put in the match for Extreme Rules. John Cena walks up to him to a big pop and the two partners for tonight stare each other down. Cena says that the two aren’t friends and Batista wholeheartedly agrees, saying that if Cena gets in is way tonight he will pay. Cena says that tonight is the least of Batista’s problems, because at Extreme Rules, he will embarrass him like he did at Wrestlemania. Batista grunts and walks off, mumbling something about a rematch.

Match Four: Ted DiBiase & Joe Hennig of Legacy vs. The Hart Dynasty
Cody Rhodes is at ringside and he plays an active part in the match, helping his fellow Legacy members in various heelish ways. The action is mostly technical and Kidd and Smith try to apply the Sharpshooter various times, only for Legacy to always escape. The finish comes when Cody Rhodes jumps up onto the apron to distract the referee but Natalya walks up behind him and pulls him off, before throwing him into the ring barricade. This distraction allows Kidd and Smith to knock Hennig down and nail DiBiase with the Hart Attack for the three!
Winners: The Hart Dynasty (7:05)

After the match as The Hart Dynasty celebrate, Cody Rhodes slides into the ring and attacks Kidd and Smith from behind. They go down with the sneak attack and soon the three members of Legacy are ganging up on them. The crowd boos but then MVP runs down to the ring to come to the aid of the Dynasty. Just when it looks like the playing field has been evened, ShoMiz runs down to the ring and attacks The Hart Dynasty and MVP. The crowd boos heavily but then Evan Bourne and Yoshi Tatsu run down to aid the faces and even the playing field once again. Legacy and ShoMiz are cleared from the ring and The Hart Dynasty, MVP, Evan Bourne and Yoshi Tatsu are left standing tall amongst a cheering crowd.

The stage is set up for the Abraham Washington show and sure enough, it is Abraham Washington himself sitting on the leather couch. He introduces himself and the show to the Raw audience and cracks some lame jokes. He makes some jokes about Sheamus’ skin colour before introducing The Celtic Warrior as his first guest. He asks Sheamus about his Last Man Standing match at Extreme Rules and Sheamus says that there is no doubt that he will win and finally prove to the world that Triple H is old and should retire, and will be forced to when he is beaten at Extreme Rules by him. Triple H comes out and says that if Sheamus couldn’t win at Wrestlemania, he doesn’t have a hope of winning at Extreme Rules. Abraham Washington tells HHH off for coming out before he could be introduced and Triple H tells him to shut up. He goes to confront Sheamus some more but an angry Abe announces that the show is over, which enrages The Game. He is ready to attack Washington when Teddy Long comes out onto the stage and says that they can settle it in a match with HHH taking on Abraham Washington right now! Abe goes pale white as Triple H bullies him down to the ring while Sheamus watches indifferently from the stage.

Match Five: Abraham Washington vs. Triple H
Abe never stands a chance, and he pleads for HHH to spare him to no avail. He takes a Spinebuster and a Pedigree and that’s all she wrote. After the match, HHH stares down Sheamus and the Extreme Rules opponents have a moment of tension.
Winner: Triple H (0:24)

We go backstage to where MVP is walking around the corridors, looking for something. He soon finds Evan Bourne and Yoshi Tatsu and thanks them for helping him out previously against Legacy. Yoshi and Evan say no problem and that they’ve always thought of MVP as a friend on Raw. Teddy Long comes out and says that he’s sorry to ruin the moment, but he makes MVP/Yoshi/Evan versus all three members of Legacy for next week.

Match Six: Batista & John Cena vs. Randy Orton & Christian
The match begins with last week’s partners in Batista and Orton starting the match. The Animal uses his raw power to gain an advantage but Orton manages to tag in Christian. The Instant Classic fares well for a while but Tista soon begins to dominate him as well. Batista refuses to tag in John Cena, even when things look bad for him as Christian gets his face comeback, hitting a pendulum kick and reverse DDT. Christian tags Orton back in and even though Batista has the chance to tag Cena in he still refuses. Orton begins stalking Batista for the RKO but John Cena manages to just reach inside the ring and tag himself in. He goes head to head with Orton for a while, eventually getting the better of him and knocking him to the canvas. He goes for the 5 Knuckle Shuffle but when he runs off the ropes a still not fully recovered Batista tags himself in. He runs at Orton for a Spear but Randy manages to dodge and quickly nail Tista with an inverted headlock backbreaker. Orton tags in Christian, who nails a Frog Splash on Batista and gets the three count as John Cena is forced to watch disappointedly.
Winners: Randy Orton & Christian (8:19)

After the match Christian and Orton celebrate together when John Cena gets into the ring and begins to stare down Orton. The two lock eyes in another tense moment like last week with the crowd roaring around them but this time Randy Orton slides out of the ring. He retreats up the ramp as John Cena grabs his WWE title and follows him. Christian watches this from inside the ring but then turns around and eats a big spear from Batista! The crowd boos as The Animal lifts Captain Charisma for a big Batista Bomb! I Walk Alone plays to end Raw as we see Batista in the ring, Cena on the ramp and Orton on the stage- the Extreme Rules opponents staring out each other to conclude Monday Night Raw.

Tuesday Night NXT 13/4

We cut away from the opening video and theme before going to Wade Barrett in the ring, much like the start of last week’s show. Barrett doesn’t look happy as he explains that Chris Jericho has once again neglected his NXT commitments in favour of recapturing the World Heavyweight Championship from Jack Swagger on Smackdown. He demands NXT Host Josh Matthews to come out and give him a new NXT Pro, one that actually commits to his position. Matthews does come out, but tells Barrett that the NXT Pros are not exchangeable and that Jericho will be his mentor until Season 1 of NXT ends. Barrett is disappointed and says that eventually he will either convince Jericho to come back on the show, or punish him for leaving. Tonight, he says, he will just have to win with a handicap.

Match One: Wade Barrett vs. David Otunga & R-Truth

In a match that went almost the same way as last week, Barrett managed to put up somewhat of a fight in the early stages but without his mentor Chris Jericho by his side he was destined to fall. The numbers game caught up with him and David Otunga eventually nailed him with his Chokeslam/Spinebuster fusion move, before tagging in R-Truth to his the Corkscrew Scissors Kick for the three.
Winners: David Otunga & R-Truth (4:00)

Christian is backstage with his NXT Rookie Heath Slater in the gym. Christian tells him that if he wants a WWE contract he has to stop being so cocky and annoying. He tells him that Captain Charisma is the perfect example of the right amount of confidence. He tells Slater to watch him to win tonight’s fatal 4 way and take notes in the process.

Daniel Bryan is in the ring and he mentions his first ever NXT victory last week against The Big Show. He tells The Miz that he was outsmarted and that his plan backfired. Bryan says that hopefully now his pro will respect him and stop treating him like garbage. The Miz comes out and tells Bryan that he still has no respect for him, calling last week’s victory a fluke. Bryan rolls his eyes but Miz tells him that he still hasn’t proven anything to him. He says that he put Bryan in another match, this one against fellow NXT Rookie Darren Young. Miz says that he hoped Bryan warmed up before because his match is right now!

Match Two: Darren Young & Daniel Bryan

Fresh from his first ever victory last week, Daniel Bryan showed his potential in this match as he wrestled without any faults, putting Darren Young on the brink of tapping out many times. Young, who had CM Punk watching indifferently at ringside, fought valiantly as well as he tried to impress his mentor. However, tonight was Daniel Bryan’s night and he nailed Young with a Regal-Plex before making him tap out to the Cattle Mutilation, his second victory and also the second achieved by submission.
Winner: Daniel Bryan (5:32)

We go backstage to NXT host Josh Matthews who is with Heath Slater, Michael Tarver, Justin Gabriel and Skip Sheffield. He says that their pros will be in a fatal 4 way match right up next and asks them why their pro will win. Sheffield says that Regal is one of the meanest guys out there and their win last week on NXT proved it. Tarver says that Carlito is cooler than the other pros and plugs them teaming together this week on Superstars. Gabriel says that Hardy has been a perfect mentor to him and has taught him everything he knows, so he should win based on that alone. Slater says that Christian may not know talent when he sees it, but he has faith in Christian tonight and is ‘confident’ that he will win the match.

Main Event: William Regal vs. Carlito vs. Matt Hardy vs. Christian

All four men were on their game in tonight’s main event and it provided for a great match. There is an interesting clash of styles with Regal’s brawling and submission wrestling in comparison to the somewhat high-risk style of the other three. Man pinfalls were broken up, including a very close 2 and a half count after Matt Hardy caught Carlito with the Twist of Fate. The end of the match came when Regal took Carlito out with the Knee Trembler, but was then teamed up against by Christian and Matt Hardy who nailed him with a double suplex. However, Christian kept Hardy hooked after this and blindsided him with the Killswitch! Despite the sneaky maneuver, the crowd popped as Christian got the pin and the win, as he promised he would.
Winner: Christian (13:67)

After the match, Christian celebrates as Just Close Your Eyes plays and his rookie Heath Slater walks out onto the stage. He claps his victory as Christian smiles and plays to the crowd who are going insane. Slater watches his pro bask in the glory of the victory he promised to deliver, and the show closes with this image.

Thursday Night Superstars 15/4

Match One: Carlito & Michael Tarver vs. Shelton Benjamin & Primo
The opening match begins with brothers and former partners in Carlito and Primo starting off the match with a fast pace. Carlito gets the advantage and then Tarver manages to use his size to dominate Primo until Shelton is tagged in and it evens up. The finish comes when Carlito and Tarver go for a double suplex on Shelton, who lands on his feet and hits Tarver, the legal man, with a Paydirt. Before Carlito can realise what just happened, Primo knocks him down with a dropkick and looks on as his partner pins Tarver for the win.
Winners: Shelton Benjamin & Primo (4:10)

Match Two: Shad vs. R-Truth
JTG and JoMo are both at ringside for this match that starts off dominated by the physically superior Shad. However, Truth manages to come back into the contest and soon nail the Lie Detector. He goes for the cover but JTG pulls the referee out of the ring and this gets his partner disqualified. After the match, Cryme Tyme go to attack Morrison and Truth with steel chairs but the babyfaces manage to escape in the nick of time.
Winner: R-Truth by disqualification (2:34)

Match Three: Ezekiel Jackson vs. Matt Hardy
The match starts off with Hardy using his speed to continually slip out of Ezekiel’s clutches, but he can’t escape for the whole match and Big Zeke begins to dominate him with his great strength. However Matt soon initiates a comeback and ends up in position to hit the Twist of Fate, only to be pushed away into the corner when he attempts the move. After this, Ezekiel pulls Matt away and pins him after a Book of Ezekiel.
Winner: Ezekiel Jackson (6:56)

Match Four: Cody Rhodes vs. MVP
In the main event for tonight, MVP comes to the ring with Yoshi Tatsu and Evan Bourne, while the two other members of Legacy accompany Cody Rhodes. The match begins rather evenly, with both men competing at a rather quick pace and using a lot of submissions and counters. Soon MVP gets the advantage and hits a few signature moves, ending with a 2 count after the Ballin’ Elbow. The finish comes a few minutes later with MVP setting up for the Drive-By Kick, only for Legacy to pull Cody Rhodes out of the ring in time. MVP gets out of the ring but Cody Rhodes slams his head into the ring post. He rolls MVP into the ring before nailing him with a DDT for the three count. After the match Legacy celebrate in the ring but are forced to bail after Bourne and Yoshi clear them from the ring, before posing with MVP to end the show.
Winner: Cody Rhodes (7:09)
