WASHINGTON (AP) — Barely missing its midnight deadline, the Senate voted early Saturday to reauthorize a key U.S. surveillance law after divisions over whether the FBI should be restricted from using the program to search for Americans’ data nearly forced the statute to lapse.

The legislation approved 60-34 with bipartisan support would extend for two years the program known as Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. It now goes to President Joe Biden’s desk to become law. White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Biden “will swiftly sign the bill.”

NEW YORK — The heart of former President Donald Trump's New York hush money trial, overseen by Judge Juan Merchan, kicks off Monday with opening statements.

Last week, 12 jurors were selected to decide if Trump falsified business records to cover up a hush money payment from his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump authorized the payment in order to keep Daniels from hurting his 2016 presidential campaign by going public with her story that the pair had sex, according to the prosecutors. Trump denies Daniels' claim and has pleaded not guilty.

So you know how newspapers are talking about David Pecker being a witness for the prosecution in Trump's trial?

Yeah, we weren't supposed to know this information. The prosecution offered the defense the name of one single witness in the case, but threatened that if this person's name was tweeted or leaked to the press, the defense would not get this courtesy again.

Either someone in Trump's legal team leaked the name, or Trump himself told Maggie Habberman of New York Times.

Yeah lol, all this after Trump's team motioned to have all the witness names revealed, and the judge told them that in this case the prosecution is under no obligation to do so. The prosecution only offered a name as a gesture of good will.

And they did what everyone thought they would. They'd name names to intimidate people.

It's almost like having an unhinged cock weasel who's done nothing but try and intimidate people over social media is a terrible spot for a legal team to be in.

Dozens of protesters have been arrested at Yale University as demonstrations against the war in Gaza rock US campuses.

Protesters occupying a square ignored multiple requests to leave, the Ivy League institution told the BBC.

Meanwhile, Columbia University students have been told to stay at home on Monday after more than 100 arrests were made during protests there last week.

Shit like this needs to be fucking illegal, even giving short descriptions of the Jurors without names can still open them up to being doxxed. Especially after two potential jurors were doxxed and given death threats already.

The media is making it so much easier for this case to possibly be thrown out. Fucking disgusting. Shit like this needs to be illegal and news sources who pull this crap during an ongoing trial need to be sanctioned.

DETROIT (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department announced a $138.7 million settlement Tuesday with more than 100 people who accused the FBI of grossly mishandling allegations of sexual assault against Larry Nassar in 2015 and 2016, a critical time gap that allowed the sports doctor to continue to prey on victims before his arrest.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Protesters chanted “Blood on your hands” at Tennessee House Republicans on Tuesday after they passed a bill that would allow some teachers and staff to carry concealed handguns on public school grounds, and bar parents and other teachers from knowing who was armed.

The 68-28 vote in favor of the bill sent it to Republican Gov. Bill Lee for consideration. If he signs it into law, it would be the biggest expansion of gun access in the state since last year’s deadly shooting at a private elementary school in Nashville.

Members of the public who oppose the bill harangued Republican lawmakers after the vote, leading House Speaker Cameron Sexton to order the galleries cleared.

Four House Republicans and all Democrats opposed the bill, which the state Senate previously passed. The measure would bar disclosing which employees are carrying guns beyond school administrators and police, including to students’ parents and even other teachers. A principal, school district and law enforcement agency would have to agree to let staff carry guns.
