Top boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko joins territorial defense battalion in Ukraine

ESPN

Vasiliy Lomachenko, ESPN's No. 8 pound-for-pound boxer, has joined a territorial defense battalion in Ukraine as the country attempts to fend off an invasion from Russia.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist is shown armed in military fatigues in an image posted to his Facebook page on Sunday. The 34-year-old was in Greece when the invasion began but returned Saturday to his home outside Odessa to be with his family.

Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs), a former three-division champion, is closing in on a June 5 fight in Australia against undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos, a title bout that would be televised on June 4 in the United States on ESPN. Lomachenko agreed to his side of the deal earlier this month.

Since suffering a decision loss to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020, Lomachenko underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and reeled off two consecutive wins. Most recently, he defeated Richard Commey via decision in December.

Hall of Fame boxer Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, announced he was taking up arms to defend against the attack. His brother, fellow Hall of Famer and former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, enlisted in Ukraine's reserve army earlier this month in anticipation of the invasion.

"We are so proud of our boxers, our real champions in boxing and champions in this war," said Mykola Kovalchuk, president of WBC Ukraine. "We are proud to be Ukrainians."

X-Pac was right for stealing Torrie from him.

Triple H was the face all along even after exposing his past with Katie Vick.

Edge was right for bullying his father and stealing his wife.

AJ Lee was right for sending him to anger management and should have sent him to a psychologist too.

Snitsky was right, it wasn't his fault. It was all Kane's.

Also love Hangman's response.

The Rock was right in calling him a roody-poo candy ass.

I saw images from a satellite earlier that showed a long line of Russian military vehicles traveling to Kyiv. Apparently the line of vehicles was 3 miles long. Seeing that really made me sad because I really want to see Ukraine win this. Much respect to Ukraine for fighting hard for their home.

To me all of the political garbage from both sides directing at each other isn't appropriate when there are people in Ukraine fighting for their home.

I am calling bullshit on that because Belarus is a dictatorship, despite what it says otherwise, and just two years ago, I think, there were a good majority protesting the "election" results and all. So yeah, 67% supporting this doesn't seem right to me then again Belarus' President is a bitch anyways just another Unionist Dreamer.

You mean to tell me, Vladimir Putin, that there *is* a way to distinguish Ethnic Ukrainians and Ethnic Russians from one another? And where, pray tell, would many of these Ethnic Ukrainians live?

Oh right... nice job defeating your own argument Putin!

I don't think Putin yet knows how badly he's fucked up.

Russias economy is crumbling, major foreign investment are leaving or have left...

Do not be surprised if a revolution kicks off in Russia. Putins little game is about to make a lot of Russians very very poor.....
