It probably needs to be bc it's been so long since it's been updated but that large of a change would wreck a lot of places, mostly the rural areas like mine that don't have as high of cost of living and have people legitimately surviving on $12-$15 hour wages (which would obviously have to increased as well). Somewhere in the middle of $7.25 and $15 would be a easier transition for sure.

But then we most likely have the same issue in 10 years bc $10 will be weaker than the $7.25 is now and it won't be changed anytime soon after this time

Seriously, minimum wage could be raised since its barely over seven bucks now. I know some folks (not saying anyone here) will use the "these are entry level jobs" or "these are jobs for young people", but sometimes life happens. Sometimes a man with a family gets laid off out of the blue, and the only option for employment is a fast food spot. Sometimes you have to take what is available to put food on the table. Not saying you should get $15 an hour to flip burgers, but would it hurt to give them $10? Especially when the price of a basic hamburger averages $8.

My first job I made $5,15 (2002) an hour and barely got 30 hours a week. In high school, that was good for me. When I was in college, oh hell no. Scholarships don't cover everything neither.

I'm not a big fan of going to $15 an hour because of some of the possibilities. I can see a reduction in hours for many employees or massive layoffs to cover the costs. The CEOs of corporations will find loop holes to be able to ensure their Quarterly bonuses are secure. Thats more important than allowing their employees to be able to pay their rent.

If they really do try to push $15 an hour, I really hope that they have the follow up plans in order to balance this out.

It's the spending power that's the whole issue. People need to decide on how much spending power minimum wage should have, not a dollar value bc like you said $5.50 was great for you in high school bc you could buy more with that than a high schooler can now with their $7.25 (assuming at least)

Now if someone believes minimum wage should have less spending power that's fine but that's the conversation that really needs to be had bc otherwise everyone would agree that it needs to go up by definition of what it was meant to be.

I like this post a lot, the negatives you bring up are almost guaranteed to happen bc corporations will not be making less profit whether they can afford to or not. If they have to support a $15 minimum wage they're going to find a way to do so without losing profit so some might make cuts elsewhere but a lot are going to make the changes that hurt the minimum wage workers in the first place. So yeah there needs to be other safeguards in place but this is where I'll do my gimmick of saying thank god I'm not a politician bc pointing out a problem is easy but fuck coming up with a solution bc most safeguards I can think of have some other side effects idk about

I didn’t click the story, so I ain’t sure what was said in in, but the headline said Biden signed and EO to raise it to 15.

But yeah we’re on the same page here of 10. It’s a good place to start.

This video shows the outcome of a City passing an Ordinance forcing businesses to pay employees $15 an hour. YoungRippa59 is also a Liberty, like myself, however he leans more on the Anarcho-Capitalist side of the Economic Model. He breaks down the article pretty well and provides his thoughts.

As much as I would love to see people get paid more, I just don't think the outcomes are going to be ideal. The corporations are not going to eat the costs. Maybe some of these "Socialists " and "Capitalists" will wake up and see they're actually brain washed into supporting "Corporatism".

I definitely think minimum wage should go by age, place where you live. whether you have a family, and other things I may have forgot lol. It definitely shouldn't just be an increase to $15 for every damn person.

I dont really know anything about Canada's economic system, so I personally can not compare the two systems.

What i was saying a few pages back, our Coutry has established Corporatism as our economic model. It has been disguised as Socialism to the left, and as Capitalism to the right. Both sides have fell right into this hole, man.

I'm not against people making more money. Especially since a damn Value Meal will cost you damn near $15 itself. I remember back in 2002, I could roll up to Hardee's and get me two double cheese burgers, large fries, and a large Coke for under $8. Problem is, many of these larger businesses will cut the cord some where. Adding kiosks is one way of eliminating a human worker. Now, I dont know how much it costs to run those, but I'm sure some guy in Assets Management has a whole portfolio on how it will save more money for the company. The smaller business (Privately owned) will not do as well as the publicly traded organizations. In certain areas, they may not be able to afford to pay all of their employees that much and have to resort to cutting hours or employees all together.

I've lost my train of thought, and can't remember where else I was going. I've got to go take care of some shit real quick.
