Currently on a media tour to promote his DC movie Black Adam and his line of energy drinks now being available in Canada, Dwayne Johnson was asked about the possibility of accepting a board position or whether he might be interested in buying WWE.

While Johnson didn't say yes or no if there would be interest in buying the company, Johnson told Bloomberg of Canada that he and friend WWE co-CEO Nick Khan "have talked about that" in terms of some involvement with WWE on the business side and hinted at something down the line.

“I love the wrestling business. I grew up in it. My grandfather...my dad started here in Canada...where (Rocky Johnson) was born. So, I'm not quite too sure if a board seat is in my future, but possibly other things are in my future, for sure.”

Johnson is a major Hollywood star, investor, and power player with his production company, athletic deal with Under Armour, tequila and energy drink brands, and investment in the soon-to-be relaunched XFL.

While he has been out of the ring for years, speculation has been that one of the "things" in his future is a match with undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns at next year's WrestleMania at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Prior to his answer about the board seat and sale, Johnson described what he felt are the right attributes for anyone that would buy WWE if it was for sale.

“I've known Vince (McMahon) for a very, very long time and he's a businessman. I think the key if there were a sale of the WWE is to make sure that whoever acquires that brand in that property, you've got to love the wrestling business. Of course, you can love the asset and you can love everything that comes with it, but you got to love the professional wrestling business," he said. "Because, if not, then you could kind of see the writing on the wall, four or five years down the road, what will happen.

"Again, the best person to buy that company would be a group who loved the wrestling business."

Johnson was not asked about McMahon resigning or any of the circumstances that led into his resignation from the chairman and CEO positions.
