That's quite sad for the Kings.

What's even sadder, they haven't made the playoffs since the 2005-06 season, losing to the Spurs in the first round 4-2. :(

Suns head coach Monty Williams gets a contract extension.

Phoenix Suns, coach Monty Williams agree to long-term extension, sources say

ESPN

The Phoenix Suns and Monty Williams, the NBA's reigning coach of the year, have agreed on a long-term contract extension, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

Williams, who was voted the National Basketball Coach's Association's coach of the year in consecutive seasons, had two years left on his original five-year deal, and now moves under contract for several more years, sources said.

Williams' impact on the Suns' organization has been profound, including a trip to the 2021 NBA Finals and a franchise-record 64 regular-season victories last season. Williams has gone 149-78 (.656) in his three seasons and delivered accountability and purpose to a wayward Suns' program, transforming a team that had won 19 games prior to his arrival into one of the league's best teams.

The Suns last season joined the 1969-70 New York Knicks as the only teams to finish with a better road victory percentage than every other team's home victory percentage in a season. The Suns were 47-0 when leading after three quarters -- the best in the shot-clock era. The only two other teams that went undefeated in that scenario in the regular season both included LeBron James -- the 2017-18 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2019-20 Los Angeles Lakers.

Among the Suns' regular-season dominance last season: a franchise-record 18-game winning streak and three separate winning streaks of nine-plus games in a season when the rest of the NBA had a combined four streaks of nine or more victories.

The Suns were the only team to rank in the top five in offensive and defensive efficiency and went 33-9 in clutch-time games -- the best record in such situations in the NBA since the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors.

Despite the league-best and franchise-record 64 victories, the Suns were blown out in a Game 7 at home to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals. Phoenix reached the NBA Finals in 2021, losing in six games to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Through the past season, Williams' leadership was tested by the distractions of an NBA investigation into owner Robert Sarver's behavior, stemming from an ESPN investigation.

ESPN's Stats & Information contributed to this story.

Outside of CP3, Phoenix is a young team but I don’t see them getting over the hump without going out and acquiring Kevin Durant.

And who knows how much they’d have to sacrifice to get him.

Boston Celtics among teams to engage in talks with Brooklyn Nets on possible Kevin Durant deal, sources say

ESPN

As Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant's trade request approaches a fourth week, the Boston Celtics have emerged among teams engaged in talks on a possible deal, sources told ESPN.

The Celtics appear no closer to acquiring Durant than others in discussions with the Nets, but Boston's ability to include All-Star forward Jaylen Brown as a centerpiece in offers does help make the team formidable in its pursuit, sources said.

The Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors have been well-known to have varying degrees of interest in Durant, but the Celtics have also been in regular contact with the Nets, sources said.

There are no deals believed to have traction for Durant, and no team has yet to reach the significant threshold that the Nets have set to trade one of the league's most talented players, sources said. The Nets' posture on a potential trade has been largely unchanged: They want a massive return that potentially includes multiple unprotected first-round picks, pick swaps and impactful players for Durant, sources said.

The Celtics consider All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum off limits in any trade talks, but Boston is able to construct a package for Durant that could include Brown and as many as three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027 and 2029) -- and two pick swaps (2024 and 2026). Brown, 25, has two years and $56 million left on his current contract.

Durant, a 12-time All-Star and two-time NBA Finals MVP, asked for a trade June 30 and hasn't backed off that request. At 33 years old, Durant has four years and $198 million left on his contract, which means Brooklyn can be patient with waiting out teams for the kind of return it believes will eventually emerge for a star player reaching the trade market in his prime.

The Celtics defeated the Nets 4-0 in an Eastern Conference first-round playoff series last season and built the core of their current team, in part, from the draft compensation from a 2013 trade that sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Nets. Both Tatum and Brown were acquired through Brooklyn picks delivered to Boston.

The longer this goes the less of a chance KD get traded this Offseason I feel. He still has 4 Years left on his deal making things even harder. I'm hearing Brown, Smart, possibly Williams or Holford and Picks that a major haul and would gut The Celtics to the point where even with Tatum and KD they aren't a better Team overall if they lose all of that and get KD and scrap back. Just give KD to my Sixers for Tobias, Maxey, and Picks. Maxey is a Star in a making and to me potentially is going to be better than Brown and Smart I feel and Tobias is a better Offensive Player than Williams and Holford.

Neither guy is going anywhere. At least right now. Kyrie may get moved at the deadline, but with KD having 4 years left, he has 0 leverage.
