Not always, though they do often die eventually. I'll never forget HATING the end of Leviathan when Ernie Hudson made it all the way to the end just to die before getting rescued. Bullshit to the extreme, you DO NOT kill Winston Zedmore.

Also, I've always hated Yaphet Kotto dying in Alien because I really wanted to see him get his full shares. :

Those guys were greedy about getting their shares. The Alien is the unsung hero of that film for saving the company from ungrateful assholes.
