That was a great montage actually, I love basically every movie they showcased there.

Was one hell of a great film, but definitely not for everyone's tastes. Knowing your affinity for the older films I think you'd probably like it though.

Mark Bridges wins Best Costume Design for The Artist. Not a shocker there.

Glad to have you here, didn't know you were a big film fan.

Iron Lady taking home Best Makeup is not a surprise either, Streep really did look like Thatcher there!

Iron Lady wins Best Makeup. First one I really don't agree with, I didn't buy Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in the least. Didn't buy Glenn Close as a dude either. But I DID buy Warwick Davis as a goblin, so... :tongue1:

That's because Warwick Davis IS a goblin! I thought Streep was good in The Iron Lady, not her best work by a long stretch though. As for Nobbs, well let's just say I wasn't impressed with Close's performance and wish she'd stick to doing great work on the show Damages.

I may check out The Lorax. I love the story and Despicable Me was fantastic.

I thought Streep was good, but yeah, definitely not her best performance and I really don't think she should win for it. If we're looking at actors portraying real people Michelle Williams should absolutely win over Meryl Streep. I never thought of her as Marilyn Monroe before, but when I started getting into that movie I just saw her as Marilyn Monroe and Michelle Williams had disappeared, so I'd love to see her win. Or Viola Davis, of course. Would be happy either way, just really am not interested in Meryl winning, she'll have plenty more opportunities with better performances and better movies anyway.

I really hate when they give them as like sympathy awards for not giving them before. Denzel Washington's Oscar for Training Day comes to mind, as he easily should have won for either Malcolm X or The Hurricane instead.

It doesn't count in LD's because people tend to post very fast. It only matters in normal threads. Believe it or not I was actually going to PM you with that very information a few minutes ago, but you beat me to it.
