SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield woman is accused of hitting a 17 year-old on the head with a large tree branch after his stepfather tried to disconnect her electricity.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the victim of the attack was the stepson of 19 year-old Darling Rivera’s landlord.

The teen and the landlord told police that they had discovered Rivera, who lives on the third floor at 108 Massachusetts Avenue, was hooked into the electricity of the second-floor apartment. Fearing that this was dangerous, around 6:30 Wednesday night, the landlord went downstairs to disconnect the fuse box. Once in the basement, however, Rivera attacked him. The landlord’s 17 year-old stepson tried to defend his stepfather, but Delaney says Rivera hit him in the head with the branch before running back up to her third-floor apartment.

The teen suffered a gash to his head, but did not have to be taken to the hospital. Police found and arrested Rivera without incident at her apartment.

She is being charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.
