Transformers 3

So my base theater hooked us the hell up and got us Transformers 3, a day early, for FREAKING Free. Yes, you read that right. So because of big crowds expected, I waited in line for 3 hours to get the best seats. It was worth it. Megatron plays a much smaller role in this movie, as Shock Wave and someone who I won't say cause of spoilers takes the lead villain role. Oh, and Megan Fox being gone was AMAZING cause it allowed the new girl in, and she is way better in my opinion. Basically the story is about the Decepticons taking over Earth to make it the new Cybertron. This movie will make you cry, laugh, and sit at the edge of your seat. A first time for me doing all of those in one movie. Not even Transformers 1 and 2 did that for me. This movie just had all the emotion, and it was nothing short of amazing. I got it for free, but I would have easily paid 20 bucks to see this. Maybe even twice. Do yourself a favor, and go and see the best movie of the Year. By far.

Failed to capture my imagination. Spent too much effort trying to sell the mystery in the plot. As the movie twisted and turned, I cared less and less. The end product was tame and lacked conviction. Whilst the film wasn't entirely bad, it was far from good.

If you want to watch a movie with over-elaborate action scenes and a somewhat tedious storyline, watch this movie. If you want something more, don't.

5/10.

Trading Places [1984] 8/10
The film which made names out of Eddie Muphey and Jamie Lee Curtis, still stands up brilliantly today.

Thor

8/10

Exceeded my expectations thats for sure, I liked the whole theme and story of the movie with Thor about to gain his spot as the King when intruders break into Asgard. Then Thor goes behind his fathers back to set an attack on the intruders (Frost giants). When his father finds out Thor is stripped of his power and banished to Earth meanwhile Thors 'brother' Odin turn his back on his adopted kingdom.

The two aspects that bothered me about the movie was the way they organised the fight scenes, They were decent but had room for improvement also the lack of time you see Thor in his mighty form.

Attack the Block [2011] 7.5/10
Really good debut from Joe Cornish. It is a nice throw back to some classic Sci-Fi/horror from the 70's/80's, and even looks a bit like an episode of Doctor Who. The young cast are all very convincing, and the film is entertaining and exciting to watch, without falling into the traps of just being another horror/comedy, it is actually much more political than that.

Bridesmaids [2011] 8/10
Enough said in the film's thread already, it is in my top ten of the year so far.

Arlington Road [1998] 8/10
Tight, atmospheric thriller, with creepy undertones by the end, the plot does keep you guessing. Jeff Bridges is on top form, Tim Robbins I found a little bit too over the top, Joan Cusack and Hope Davis add strong support.

Brighton Rock [2011] 6/10
I never quite bought into the central relationship, and at times the story was a bit messy, like the attempt to blend the mod history of Brighton into the main plot, it just felt like they added it, just to note that it happened rather than because it works as a part of the story. The performances are pretty solid, and the period detail nicely recrated. It is a decent bash at a tough remake, but not what I was hoping for.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Well definitly better than number two. I think the recasting of the leading lady hurt the film, just my estimation they never really explain why her character isn't in the film. Also the new character knows things that also are never really explained. It was good #1 was the best still. Be interesting to see where things go from here didn't really see any attempts to branch out I know Bay is done so I just assumed Shia was to but perhaps not.

Love And Other Drugs - I dunno. I liked it, I guess. It reminded me a little of Funny People in that I really enjoyed the first half and then it got really heavy handed and boring thus kinda ruining it. But hey, Hathaway titties! 3/5

Wrestling with Shadow

Never saw this before. Its interesting that the documentarian happened to film this portion of Brets life. Do I think some of the reactions would have been different if the camera wasnt there of course they would have. Kinda interesting to see how the screwjob went down. I kind of prefer Beyond the Mat though. It also made me miss Sunny.

Kramer VS. Kramer (1979) 8/10
Engrossing drama, fully showing the effects of having a unbalanced marriege where one parent is the sole bread winner and the other one is expected to stay home and look after the child, it is also makes a compelling case for the argument that fathers should have just as much claim to custody of a child as the mother. It is very moving, and perfectly written, and Dustin Hoffman gives one of his most subtle performances, the trick is that by the end of the movie you are rooting for him, and feel sorry for his character, which you didn't at the start.

Darkman (1990) 7.5/10
Stylish and very entertaining, comic book/Sci-Fi film from Evil Dead director Sam Remi. Liam Neeson is well cast in the lead role, but I fee Frances Mcdormond should have been given more to do. The plot does wear a little thin at times, but the characters are good enough, and there are some fine touqe in cheek humour, the director manages to merge some good slap-stick horror, with melodrama and comedy, plus there is another cracking score from Danny Elfman.

Battle: Los Angeles It's a really good scifi movie, tons of action in it, never really a boring moment in the movie, from beginning to end. 8.5/10

Drive Angry - God, forgive me. I didn't hate it. It was just a sillyass cheeseball grindhouse flick with tons of violence and splosions. I love William Fichtner. I love David Morse, Amber Heard is hot as fuck. Cage is in full batman mode here. And he did indeed drive pretty fucking angry. 2.5/5

An emotionally engaging story of a real sporting and human tredgy, the use of old footege and talking heads are brilliant, and it really gets to grips with a complex, but likeable character. Powerful stuff.

House Party 3. 2/5. I like this series, but each film after the first is a little less impressive like most series. Also, having the main party in this one be a Bachelor Party kind of feels like a cop out looking back at it.

Kaboom [2011] 6/10
The latest from cult film maker Gregg Araki, who normally deals with teenage sex, and drug taking, and just young people fucking their lives aways, sometimes it is entertaining and actually has something to say, and sometimes it is annoying and pointless, this new one falls somewhere in the middle. The performances are great, and there are some shape post modern lines, you get the sense of what a bleak world highschool life can be, and there are one or two other things going on, but after a while the main ideal of is the central guy really seeing these strange things or is he just high, does get quite boring, and there is no really plot, just a collection of ideas, and bits from other films and TV Shows, and by the hour mark it has run out of steam, but still not bad.
