'Suburgatory' star Jane Levy replacing Lily Collins in 'Evil Dead' remake

Like it or not, the "Evil Dead" remake is running full steam ahead, and has now found a replacement lead after Lily Collins recently dropped out.

"Suburgatory's" Jane Levy is now set to play the film's protagonist, reports Deadline.com

Shiloh Fernandez ("United States of Tara") was also recently added as the film's male lead.

Sam Raimi, who directed the three original "Evil Dead" films, is producing, while Diablo Cody ("Juno," "Young Adult") recently did a re-write on the script. In this version, the lead character is female ("Ash" was played by the great Bruce Campbell in the earlier incarnation and its sequels). Along with some trusted friends, she ventures to a lone cabin in the woods in order to kick a nasty drug habit, only to inadvertently awaken some ancient evil spirits. Groovy.

Levy was also recently featured on Showtime's "Shameless."

No more remakes especially great ones like the Evil Dead. Why oh Why?

It would work and as long as Ash gets to bring his boom stick. I want to add Darth Maul to the mix just so we can see Jason cut him in half again.

I hated the nightmare reboot the most out of the 3 reboots.

I didn't mind it as much as some people. I thought it was decent. F Rooney Mara in the A though.

Englund doesn't want to do Freddy anymore though. But it would have been so damn awesome to see.

One thing to remember here is that they are at least attempting something slightly different with this reboot than the norm. Casting a female to take the place of the previous role played by a male is unique and I'm not going to say its going to be good, just worth checking out.

Lou Taylor Pucci has always been one of those actors that floats just under the radar. While the young actor has made some solid films (Thumbsucker, Brotherhood, The Music Never Stopped), he's never really gotten his big break. Well, that day has arrived.

Variety reports that Lou Taylor Pucci is now in talks to play a role in the Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell-produced remake of The Evil Dead. Just last week it was announced that Suburgatory's Jane Levy and Shiloh Fernandez will also star in the movie. Like the original film, the story follows a group of young adults to a cabin in the woods where they accidentally release an ancient evil after reading out of the Book of the Dead. Pucci will play Eric (this movie is speaking to me), a character described as "an intense academic whose intellectual curiosity gets his group of friends into trouble." While it doesn't say it explicitly, one can imagine that Pucci will be the one reading out of the book and dooming all of his friends. Levy will play Mia, who is said to be the stand-in for Ash in the remake, while Fernandez

Fede Alvarez is writing and directing the remake, though Diablo Cody was hired to do some touch-ups on the script as well. There isn't a set release date yet, but Sony Pictures is handling the distribution. There also isn't a set start date for production, but it will start rolling this year.

They added another person to the movie. I am keeping faith in this since both Raimi and Campbell are apart of it.

The issue, to me at least, are the females they have been casting. First Lily Collins and now Jane Levy? No offense to either of them, they're both cute and charming and all that, but cute should not be the lead adjective used to describe the lead in the Evil Dead, it should be bad ass and I don't see either of those girls ever being truly bad ass. :tongue1:

Bruce wasn't exactly all that badass in the first Evil Dead either...in fact...he was a pussbag...haha
