Stone Cold On The Problem With Seth Rollins

"Who is Seth Rollins?” asked Austin. “When you say Seth Rollins, or you say Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins, I still don’t have a sense of what or who this guy is. That rests on Seth Rollins’ shoulder as an individual to define or create that, as well as the WWE. I still don’t get a sense of what kind of personality he is. He’s not electrifying like The Rock, he’s not anti-authority like Stone Cold, or like The Deadman, so OK, then who is he? Look at another guy who, if I dare say, was a little introverted but obviously had an ego in Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart. Not a larger-than-life personality, but the genuineness of his character was he was ‘The Hitman’ and he was a badass – the ‘Excellence of Execution,’ the best there is, was, and ever will be. Bret wasn’t an over the top guy, he was a pretty humble and quiet individual outside the ring. In many regards, he was somewhat like Seth – though, in many regards, Bret is an entirely different animal – but there is a case of a guy who was not a showy guy, but rather conservative, and had a highly-defined, world-class gimmick and was a badass worker. Seth needs to work on this.”

I agree 100%!!!! Rollins could easily be the face that runs the place, run through reigns, AJ, Cena, anyone, imo. He's got the look, charisma, skill, and overall persona of a big star. However, I don't know what the fuck WWE is doing with him!!!! Maybe they're too focused on reigns and Balor to give a shit right now, but Rollins seems stale. His interactions are dull and non emotional or anything. His booking is Wishy washy and seems to lead no where, really. Or, if it does, it feels underwhelming and non important. I'll admit that triple h did a good job making their feud seem more personal and emotional, but that was all triple h. Seth did like nothing for that and I thought it was all stale on his side. Now Rollins is targeting joe finally and I'm sure that will seem not very personable and under helming as well.

Basically, I think Seth needs the opportunity to find his nitch. He needs to be that guy who brings down the authority with a character that's bad ass and innovative at the same time. Right now I feel he's neither of those things and just says generic lines each week, gets his ass beat, then miraculously wins. It gets stale. He needs a shake up and something that sets him apart from the rest.

Thoughts?

Honestly, I agree. I like Seth Rollins, even when he was heel. He has the mic work, but doesn't have a "story" to tell, like Austin implies. He took the easy way before, but now he's not, but it's not a compelling story for fans to root for. Austin himself was the storyteller with the whole "fuck the establishment" shtick. Back in the days, in the 3:16 era, I turned on the TV just to watch what Austin was going to do next. That's what he's talking about here.
