This summer's Sonisphere Festival has been cancelled, according to reports.

BBC Newsbeat writes that Queen leaked news of the festival's cancellation on their website, Queenonline.com. However, at the time of writing, the Queen site has taken the story down.

Queen were due to headline the Knebworth Park event on July 6-8 with vocals provided by Adam Lambert. Kiss and Faith No More were also due to play major shows at the metal and hard rock weekender. Queen apparently wrote: "It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012".

The bill also included Refused, Marilyn Manson, Evanescence, The Darkness, The Blackout and Skindred. Glassjaw were due to perform their classic 2002 album 'Wordship & Tribute' in its entirety during their set, while Hundred Reasons - pictured right - intended to play their 2001 debut album 'Ideas Above Our Station'

The festival promoters have not yet released a statement regarding the cancellation, but it is thought that they will make an official comment soon.

Other festivals to be cancelled this summer, include Oxegen and The Big Chill. Meanwhile, there will be no Glastonbury as the iconic event is having a fallow year.
