Royal Rumble match foreshadowing title matches at WM?

Alright, so obviously the winner of the Rumble match faces the champion at Mania.

BUT, has anyone else noticed the fact that the runner-up is usually facing the other champion? Excluding the Big Show and years where the runner-up hasn't been at WM, let's put it like this:

RR 2004 - Benoit wins, Kurt Angle 2nd last eliminated (Big Show is last eliminated).
WM 2004 - HHH vs HBK vs Benoit. Guerrero vs Angle.

RR 2005 - Batista wins, Cena is last eliminated.
WM 2005 - Batista vs HHH. Cena vs JBL.

RR 2006 - Rey Mysterio wins. Orton is last eliminated.
WM 2006 - Angle vs Mysterio vs Orton.

RR 2007 - Undertaker wins. HBK is last eliminated.
WM 2007 - Batista vs Undertaker. Cena vs HBK.

RR 2008 - Cena wins. HHH is last eliminated.
WM 2008 - Orton vs Cena vs HHH.

RR 2009 - Orton wins. HHH is last eliminated.
WM 2009 - HHH vs Orton. (lol ?)

RR 2010 - Edge wins. Cena is last eliminated.
WM 2010 - Jericho vs Edge. Batista vs Cena.

RR 2011 - 40 entrants? Santino runner-up? doesn't count.

ANYWHO, look at that pattern. Woop. If that's the case, looks like we're seeing Jericho in a title match! Do you think WWE is doing this on purpose? Or do you think it's just coincidence?

I actually like the research done here but with only usually a few names every year that make sense to win the Rumble and most of those names being main event guys a pattern like this is going to come up. If WWE didn't plan stuff on the fly half the time as they do nowadays, I'd say it's more coincidence yeah but I just think WWE knows their boundaries come Mania season.

Yeah and Jericho will most likely be involved in a title match at Mania. I think he's going to win the chamber, though.

Pretty interesting how obvious this was yet never really noticed it myself till now. Sheamus is def gonna go after the SD champ so unless Jericho wins the chamber then yeah looks like the pattern will happen again as he'll face Punk at mania for the title.

I get the logic of what you are saying, but I still don't see how this overshadows the Mania Title matches? There is about a two month gap between the two ppv's and in reality most fans would have forgotten who the last man eliminated in the rumble match was by Mania time. I also find this ironic since is recently years the rumble has been in danger of becoming just another event rather than the second most important of the year. Still it is a cruical part of the road to Wrestlemania and does not take away from that event at all.

Ohh mate, I think you might've misread the title :p

I said foreshadowing, not overshadowing. Nothing overshadows Wrestlemania in WWE.

Good thread.

Makes the stipulation look very weak.

"Finish in the last two and you get a title match at Mania"

Fair enough, maybe I got confused because I don't know what the word foreshadow means? LOL.
