Retribution - What the Hell?

So it’s been two years to the day since Retribution disbanded and what a shit show that was eh? My question is why did it go wrong and what was the reason for their horrible booking? Do you guys think they were supposed to be shit from the start or did WWE actually have real plans for them and then gave up on them when they started to fail right off the bat? Did WWE not realize how bad the booking was from the beginning? This group will go down as one of the biggest failures in WWE history but could they have been something? How would you have booked them?

Obviously you don’t have to answer all these questions lol. I’m just throwing them all out for thought.

Ali.........it was also just a shit premise really. When the biggest person in the group is barely breaking mid-card status it's not really going to be a good thing. They really didn't have any strong mouth pieces. And honestly, getting anything newish over in the pandemic era was just going to be a big task.

The premise behind them was alright but the execution was just straight garbage. The names were corny, the masks were awful and the childish behaviour of them tagging the plexiglass and throwing the brick through the PC window was just lame as fuck.

But when they revealed their names as T-Bar, Mace, and Slapjack I was like surely this has got to be some kind of a rib. That’s why I wonder if WWE meant for the whole thing to be a joke or if they were stupid enough to think those names were actually good lmao

the easy answer is because it was Vince's version and booking of something that could have been very awesome. I would wager Ali had some good ideas with how to present it and where to go with it but it was dead on arrival as soon as Vince took over and gave them goofy names and masks
