The Bee Gees' Robin Gibb is in a coma at a hospital in London, according to numerous reports from the U.K. Gibb's representative Doug Wright confirmed the reports to CNN.

The Sun reports that Gibb has developed pneumonia and that his wife, brother and children have gathered for a vigil around his bedside. According to the Associated Press, Gibb's son has acknowledged that the 62-year-old singer is seriously ill.

Gibb has been battling health problems for some time and is widely believed to have been diagnosed with colon and liver cancer last year. Earlier this week, the singer was forced to cancel an appearance at the premiere of Titanic Requiem, his new classical work to commemorate the 100th year of Titanic's sinking, due to illness.

Gibb's twin brother (and Bee Gees co-founder) Maurice died in 2003, at 53 years old, from complications after surgery for an intestinal blockage, the result of a hereditary intestinal condition shared by the two brothers.

A statement confirming the recent turn of events appeared today on Gibb's website:

"Sadly the reports are true that Robin has contracted pneumonia and is in a coma. We are all hoping and praying that he will pull through.

"Because of this situation, Robin's website is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Rolling Stone will have more on this story as it develops.
