It was OK, I quite liked the last season best one since season 6.

It was OK, I quite liked the last season best one since season 6.
Latest episode was OK, I have fairly low expectations though.
Episode 2 was better than 1, and episode 3 was better than 2.
Definitely too many guest appearances. The 4 of them (5 with Holly) alone make for the best episodes, throw in some gelfs or simulants sometimes as well.
At least they aren't destroying the shows reputation.

They got the reputation thing out of the way with seasons 7-10 or so IMHO.
What was the one where they had the Lister/Coronation street crossover. That was the worst season or the one without Barrie IMHO.

Seasons 1-8 are gold. What you're talking about is Back to Earth which was just awful.
Yeah it gets a bit blurry, here was a down turn when Barrie left for that 1 season (7 or 8 IIRC) and then it was average to meh until last season IMHO. I have not seen episode 2 and 3 yet and I should probably rewatch some of the 8/9/10 stuff was I have seen it perhaps once.
I started with season 6 which was on randomly late at night here in 95/96, then I met a girl who had season 1-6 on VHS.
Season 7 was when Rimmer was absent (excluding the glorious Arnold Rimmer song)
8 is great.
9 is Back to Earth, ignore.
10 is good.
