I feel Momma is very underrated, or at least not as talked about as it should bc it gets a little overlooked compared to the classics on TPAB. It sucks I'm voting against so much early Kendrick too, mans just kept getting better though :lmao

Don't beat yourself up. He definitely hadn't come into his own with this first EP. I would say he wasn't even fully evolved until AT LEAST GKMC, and he still continued to get better from there. Also, unfortunately, the pre-GKMC just hasn't held up over time as rap has moved in a more artistic direction. It is what it is.

GKMC and TPAB are just clearly on such a higher level it's insane, and then the stuff after like DAMN. and the Untitleds of course as well. I feel like the Black Panther album was more of him going back to his roots though because I really don't rate a lot of it super high :TI:

Most movie soundtracks are phoned in. Tends to be a lot of cliche stuff from a lyrical perspective. Production is usually good. But not a lot of actual substance. Black Panther is pretty much no different.

I expected more because I had heard they just wanted him to do a song and when he saw clips of the movie he said fuck it and made a full album, so it seemed like he'd be motivated.
