STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Joe Paterno, the longtime Penn State coach who won more games than anyone in major college football but was fired amid a child sex abuse scandal that scarred his reputation for winning with integrity, died Sunday of lung cancer. He was 85.

"He died as he lived," the statement said. "He fought hard until the end, stayed ...

I don't agree with how he handled the whole Sandusky situation, but the man just died. He isn't the one who touched those children, he is only guilty of handling the situation wrong. You will have many chances to state your opinion, today is not the day. Nobody is perfect, not even Joe. RIP Joe Pa

A great man. What a tragedy that his impeccable life is clouded by Sandusky's perversion and the media's desire to bring down a man who's shoes they're not worthy to carry.

Sadly, Paterno will be like Chris Benoit where the finale of his life will override the good things he did. Unlike Benoit, Paterno didn't really do the bad things, he just handled a situation poorly i.e: he enabled Sandusky. Sadly, it turns out dozens of kids were done wrong by Paterno.

Before a major disagreement takes place, please read this: Joe Paterno’s Legacy - KidSafe Foundation A fair assessment, it also covers the specific traumas a child of abuse endures.

I still completely blame the media for his death just like I blame them for the fall out of Tiger Woods golf career. Those greedy bastards are after any good guys left in sports.

I usually get my ass chewed up for this, but really, JoePa did all he was supposed to do regarding the alleged child rapes. He told the board and they did nothing about it..

If they don't change the name of Beaver stadium to Joe Paterno stadium, there's going to be a lot of pissed off people.. Then again, if they do change it, their will probably be a lot people pissed too.
