For example the late 1990s Stone Cold went from flipping people off with middle fingers, cursing, giving Stone Cold Stunners to everyone he didn't like (including the owners of the WWE Vince and his son Shane) and drinking beer but in 2001 he aligned himself with Vince McMahon (who he used to hate) and joined WCW during the Invasion angle even though he hated WCW before he joined WWE and him getting fired was part of what created the Stone Cold character in the original ECW (which ruined the essence of what made him popular to begin with) and when he reverted back to his babyface gimmick in late 01 - early 02, his popularity wasn't as strong as it was before the 2001 heel turn.

So, let me ask you a question because the text and the title makes it hard to understand what the thread is about.

Are you asking why do Wrestlers change their characters/gimmicks over time?

They change gimmicks either due to the company telling them to, they want to try something different if they are getting no reaction, or a "gimmick" is owned and they can't use for example, Johnny B. Bad in WCW
