‘Local Man Finds Priceless Oar On Sedgley Beacon’, creates wrestling promotion.

New independent promotions and wrestling schools pop up all the time, all over the world. Not all of them are particularly news-worthy, and this one may not be, either. There are, however, several interesting points about this start-up, based near Manchester in the United Kingdom. The first is that ‘GSW’ finds its origins in a news story from British regional newspaper The Express & Star headlined ‘Local Man Finds Priceless Oar On Sedgley Beacon’, dated 14th February, 2023. In the body of the article, journalist Martin Shaw recounts how a man, 33, identified only as S. Snake came across an oar used by Viking sailors buried three feet below an oak tree when walking near his home. It sold at auction for $12.6 million, and Shaw finished by pondering what this Wolverhampton native would do with his new fortune.

It appears that many others, both in Wolverhampton and further afield, were pondering the same question, and through the freedom of information act these detectives discovered several large purchases made by the same S. Snake listed on the contract of sale for the viking oar. These included a huge tract of land in the Peak District, several wrestling rings, filming and editing equipment, and various other oddities that initial researchers struggled to make sense of. More sleuths soon found that S. Snake had filed trademarks on ‘GSW’ and ‘Gravitational Singularity Wrestling’, along with a slew of others of unknown significance. A small company, ‘GSW Ltd’, has procured the service of a few employees, according to tax filings, many of whom have primarily worked as trainers in the professional wrestling industry or in production for live events around the United Kingdom.

The creation of a wrestling school by a suddenly wealthy Wolverhamptonian is not noteworthy in itself, but added to this is the matter of a series of shows currently being advertised on several European television channels with the GSW name. The first of these is scheduled for October 21st, 2023, airing on Channel 4 in the UK, RTL in Germany, Canal+ Sport in France, and a series of others across the continent. There is no mention of any broadcasting deal in North America, or an indication of what talent will be involved or when/where this debut episode will be filmed. Frightful, quoting a source close to one of the trainers hired by GSW, claims that the promotion will use trainees from its dojo, the first class of which is apparently already well underway, alongside more established names from the independent circuit.

A blue-ticked Instagram account, @GSWrestling, also popped up around a month ago, but currently has no posts or profile picture. We’ll keep an eye on it. More, hopefully, to follow.

Heimlecher has been in the fight game since before the Truffaut Accords, and his invaluable wealth of knowledge has led to unprecedented success for those under his wing. Many more will come to the SSS, in no small part due to the bounty that Heimlecher has placed upon the head his own top fighter -- who will be the first of our eighteen #Voyagers profiled. Meet #Voyager 1: Styx (@StyxGSW), of the Hladrick species of the planet Nurito-XF (Sembene-Gβ System, Quad. 2). Like all of his race, Styx is tall, muscular, red-skinned, and horned, boasting impressive strength and speed in equal measures. These attributes, alongside a cunning streak and smouldering intensity, contribute to a well-rounded in-ring style utilising high-flying, technical, and power elements.

Styx’s natural talents caught the attention of renowned combat agent and manager VC Aruk Heimlecher (@VCHeimlecher), who signed him into his stable of fighters at the beginning of the last cosmic standard year. Since joining the ‘#FlashLtd’ stable, Styx’s obvious talent was amplified by Heimlecher’s experienced guidance, with the Hladrick warrior winning a spate of tournaments and championships across the lower quadrants. Now, Styx himself is a target, with VC Aruk offering a 1000 credit bounty that can be claimed by the first person to pin or submit Styx in a GSW ring.

Expect Styx to finish matches with his ‘Welcome to Tartarus’ chokeslam or ‘Sisyphus’s Boulder’ double foot stomp, and for his associates from #FlashLtd (unveiled throughout this week) to never be too far away.

Viewers from Earth will think they know #Voyager 2, Kidd Bandit (@kiddbanditpro), who has been making a name for themselves on the independent circuit over the past couple of years. As usual, they in actuality know very little. GSW offers a glimpse into Bandit’s true being as a Vulpan bounty hunter, whose mission on Earth - according to certain galactic tabloid publications - revolved around the destruction of legendary play-by-play commentator Jim Ross (@jimrossbbq). The status of this objective is pending.

Whilst most of Kidd’s time is taken up by their bounty hunting duties, they have also been a notable name on the combative theatre scene in Quadrants Five and Six. At one point, rumours abounded that Kidd was close to signing a contract with #FlashLtd, but these advances were never confirmed and a deal never materialised. One could only guess what Kidd Bandit could achieve under the wing of VC Heimlecher (@VCHeimlecher).

The ‘Angel Killer’, ‘Dance of the Fire God’, and ‘Reaper Death Seal’ can spell the end for opponents from any angle, and expect fast-paced and fluid action from combative theatre’s #Protagonist.

#Voyager 3 is Bilk the Hungry, another member of #FlashLtd and, therefore, a part of VC Aruk Heimlecher’s (@VCHeimlecher) illustrious stable of renowned prizefighters. Bilk, of the Khalladon species of the planet Calibri-4 (Rainer-Werner System, Quad. 6), was the first warrior to join Heimlecher almost five cosmic standard years ago, and their relationship has been characterised by a fierce loyalty ever since. Although ever fierce, Bilk has performed less and less recently in galactic tournaments, instead prioritising his security duties and - at least according to rumour - satiating his bloodlust in less regulated arenas.

Bilk’s Hungry moniker, first given to him when he was a child, has a dual meaning: it illustrates his ravenous desire for competition and for battle, whilst also communicating the fact that he likes to eat. This orange-skinned yokozuna is volatile and often erratic in the ring, favouring brute strength over more nuanced strategies. You can expect few words outside of the ring, with Bilk too busy cycling through an endless sequence of meals to waste time monologuing.

The ‘Hunger Strike’ snap powerslam and ‘Quake’ top rope big splash are amongst an array of manners in which Bilk can finish opponents, and the big man - weighing in excess of two hundred and fifty kilograms - rarely lets bouts go long before looking to finish things off. Bilk will most often be seen backing up Styx and the rest of #FlastLtd in his role as the group’s ‘muscle’.

Not much is known about the early years of #Voyager 4, the Gatekeeper (@bountykeith). Formerly a guardian of the Rainbow Gates of Gideon-6, he left his post in disgrace following the Siege of Kelbroon and the storming of Yelena’s Keep. He has since worked in various combative theatre promotions in Quadrant Five, scratching out a meagre living whilst fending off constant reminders from audiences of his well-documented professional failures.

In recent galactic tournaments, the Gatekeeper has been using a modified STF that he calls ‘Bar the Gates’ to finish opponents by submission or knockout, usually preceded by his ‘Rainbow Road’ sheer-drop brainbuster. He is a brawler by nature, with a variety of stiff, unique strikes at his disposal, although the power game is also a key strength of this Qullock from the Rainbow Perekrostok.

#Voyager 5 needs no introduction throughout most of the galaxies, where he has fought, drunk, and partied his way through the stages - small and large - of combative theatre. Known colloquially as ‘the Summer-Time Party Alien’, Squalid (@squalidreal) is a Baruzh from Herzog-W6 in Quadrant Seven. In fact, he is the Barush from Herzog-W6 in Quadrant Seven, owing to his species’ perfection of contraceptive techniques and subsequent near extinction. The last of his kind, Squalid funds his hedonistic (and often illicit) lifestyle through the collection of trophies and bounties in various combative theatre promotions on both sides of the Crease.

Squalid employs a unique and unconventional in-ring style, with strikes and submissions comprising the bulk of his arsenal. ‘The Party’s Over’, a modified octopus stretch, is his favourite way to end matches, but more explosive tools - like his ‘Cyclone!’ Yakuza kick and the ‘Redshift‘ hook kick - are also at his disposal. Furthermore, Squalid has a long history of recruiting fans across the galaxies to his side thanks to his wildcard style and cavalier attitude, with his opponent very often the butt of the joke.

#Voyager 6, Kikutaro-486Δδ (@kikutarochan), looks a lot like Earth-wrestler Kikutaro, and in fact he is Kikutaro, only from the parallel universe 486Δδ of the Inner Spiralled Cluster. Whilst cleaning his garage back in his home-reality, Kikutaro-486Δδ stumbled upon interdimensional travel and, by a series of quirks of fate, each more mathematically unlikely than the last, found himself stranded in the meteor fields of our Quadrant Six. Undeterred, Kikutaro-486Δδ’s can-do attitude and fighting spirit led him back to civilisation and into the public eye, finding his feet in VC Aruk Heimlecher’s #FlashLtd stable. Kikutaro-486Δδ has since both charmed and reviled audiences in equal measures across the quadrants.

Amidst his absurdist approach to combative theatre, Kikutaro-486Δδ will hope to see off enemies of #FlashLtd with his ‘Kaiun Tornado, v.486Δδ’ corkscrew moonsault. HIs pockets, though, are deep, and he’ll have the ‘Ebessan Cutter, v.486Δδ’, the ‘Ebessan Splash, v.486Δδ’, and the ‘Ebisu Otoshi, v.486Δδ’ at hand when he needs to reach deep within them.

Meet #Voyager 7: Collector Rayne (@rayneleverkusen), a half-Vulpan renegade with two passions in life. The first is for combative theatre, a discipline in which she has gathered quite the reputation throughout the lower quadrants, even picking up the gold prize in the Q6 Invitational Tournament earlier this year. Outside of this, Rayne is also known in the collecting world, both as an authority on demon contracts (law and lore) and - as her name implies - as a collector of them herself.

Although the extent of her personal collection is unknown, Rayne has been known to carry a briefcase containing #theDragonContract to the ring in her recent spate of combative appearances. This one-of-a-kind artefact, procured during an ancient ritual that Rayne attended on the planet Kong-ξ5, allows the bearer to summon the Dragon Sisters of Vel"check, invariably unleashing an unpredictable and uncontrollable rampage of fire and destruction. Fortunately, the power of this contract can only be invoked once every cycle of Kong-ξ5's largest moon (which equates to roughly half an Earth year, or a quarter of a cosmic standard year).

When she isn’t summoning dragons or other ancient demons, Collector Rayne will look to finish opponents with ‘the Collection’, her version of the liontamer, or a stiff running boot to a kneeling opponent that she dubbs ‘Event Horizon’. Rayne’s well-balanced style focuses on fluid movement and vicious, hard-hitting strikes to wear down her adversaries.

#Voyager 8 is Gabriel Evangeline (@leonslater_) - also known as #Sirensong - an angelic figure from Khullok-8H, the oceanic planet in the Chabrol-7 System. Although some combative theatre promotions allow winged competitors to participate (with varying opinions and guidelines as to the legality of actual flight), GSW follows the rules of engagement outlined in the Truffaut Accords. Evangeline is no stranger to competition in all of the lower quadrants and has faced these restrictions before, meaning that he is required to shed his wings before battle. This experience, though not permanent, is incredibly taxing both physically and emotionally for angelics. Evangeline - true to his theatrical nature - chooses to undertake this ordeal in the ring, in plain view of his audience and his opponent.

Evangeline will utilise his speed to get the advantage over opponents, and is equally comfortable striking from the mat and from the air. Even without wings, Evangeline will frequently use the ring ropes and turnbuckles to take flight, particularly for his ‘Halo Jump’ 450 and ‘Divine Light’ springboard forearm.

#HurcannSpirit, representing VC Aruk Heimlecher’s (@VCHeimlecher) #FlashLtd, are the first revealed #Voyager tag team (9 and 10). Consisting of the Hurcann half-sisters Karma (@mashaslamovich) and the Chameleon (@ChameleonGSW), the Vice Chancellor purportedly discovered the pair working off a debt at a small, independent combative theatre promotion on their home planet of Arial-Æ within the Bergman-11 System. Legend has it that Karma had run into problems with a local syndicate of Bourgeoisie scrappers in the conduct of her duties in her side hustle as a vengeance demon. This debt was settled by VC Heimlecher, and ever since they’ve become known as one of the fiercest tag teams in the lower quadrants whilst flying the flag for his #FlashLtd stable.

The half-sisters were born to the same Hurcann mother but different Vulpan fathers, with intraspecies variation leading to significantly different biological attributes and dispositions. Karma is renowned for her impressive strength, having represented her homeplanet at quadrant level in powerlifting, alongside her short temper. She answered her calling as a vengeance demon at an early age, utilising transcendental powers associated with the fire elemental to rise to the 11th ranked spot on last year’s Quadrant Five Vengeance Demon 500 (Q5VD500). She shows no sign of slowing down in this pursuit, even with her new responsibilities as a GSW #Voyager.

The Chameleon, birth name unknown, is also a pale-skinned female biped with vibrantly coloured hair (purple, in her case), though this is essentially where the similarities between her and her sister end. The Chameleon is a shapeshifter, drawing from the shadow elemental, something only learned during the culmination of this year’s #DastardlyDuumvirate tournament on the Vertov moons in Quadrant Six. The true extent of this ability is unknown, but fans witnessed her incredible transformation into a phoenix in what turned out to be a pivotal moment of the inferno match grand final. Even outside of this talent, the Chameleon has always exhibited a calm and controlled air, much in contrast to her sister.

The Truffaut Accords will stop the half-sisters from being able to use the most extreme of their special abilities in (most of) their matches, but they have plenty of tools at their disposal that don’t require elemental power. Their respective strength and speed strategies compliment each other well, their devastating ‘Phoenix Rising’ missile dropkick and sitout powerbomb combination the perfect example of this dynamic.

#Voyager 11 is Grunge-α (@makifuckingitoh), a Vulpan of Kurosawa-9 in Quadrant Two who has seen less than ten cosmic standard years since her birth. Whilst most of #theFirstSaga’s principal cast have spent years (if not decades) honing their craft in combative theatre promotions across the universe, Grunge-α comes to GSW immediately after graduating from the University of the Singularity, whose notable alma mater include current Galactic Loose Alliance fisheries minister Galoop Gallop, renowned actor Zaphod Beeblebrox, and renaissance adventurer Thomas West. Grunge-α graduated summa cum laude with trivariate honours in Art History, Interplanetary Relations, and the Science of Combative Theatre.

With Grunge-α yet to debut within the squared circle at the professional level, not much about her in-ring style is known beyond rumours generally attributed to sources within her graduating class or university faculty members. Whilst a student upon Kern’s Asteroid, she was a member of the famous Generalist’s Combat Society (GCS), eventually captaining the University's winning delegation at the 8763th Interquadrant Student Tournament. This handful of public bouts, where Grunge-α tapped out each of her six opponents with different submission moves, will form the basis for scouting reports hastily assembled by the seventeen #Voyagers who will share #theSeagull with her.

Our second tag team reveal of the day comes in the form of #Voyagers 12 and 13, De Large (@delargeGSW) and Torance (@TorranceWARRIOR), who are under the employ of combat theatre agent and promoter Master Stanley (@StanleyTheMaster). Stanley has been an adversarial figure towards VC Aruk Heimlecher over the past decade, and it comes to a surprise to many that the Vice Chancellor invited him and his stable of fighters to #theSeagull for GSW’s #theFirstSaga. "Iron sharpens iron," said Heimlecher when interviewed about rumours that Stanley, De Large, and Torrance would be involved in his next project. "Stanley’s fighters have always brought the best out of my own, regardless of his insufficiencies as a man."

De Large is a Vulpan mystic whose origins - before his arrival on the combative theatre scene around five years ago - are mostly unknown. His in-ring style is slow and methodical, favouring technical exchanges and unique submission holds, like his ‘Hypercube Stretch’ modified STF finisher, but allegations of spirit-tampering have always followed him around and dogged his accomplishments. Although strictly prohibited by the Truffaut Accords, spirit-tampering - the art of clouding another’s thoughts through prolonged focus - is virtually undetectable using modern officiating techniques. None have been able to make the accusations stick, with Master Stanley frequently dismissing them as the product of anti-mystic prejudices.

Torrance, meanwhile, won renown through the early years of the century as a Huan warrior of the Qong Dynasty on Courier-φ12, earning distinction in the Kieslowski-1 campaigns that dominated Quadrant Four politics at the time. After the Hard Peace, Torrance retired to the agricultural village he grew up in, but soon realised this quiet life was no longer viable for him when he began to fight and kill whole herds of cattle whilst sleepwalking. He packed up and left for the cities, once more building his reputation as a fierce fighter, only this time in the combative theatre halls as opposed to the battlefield. Torrance, who still strides into battle wearing his traditional Huan mask, compliments De Large’s meandering technical style with a more direct approach, utilising a combination of explosive power and disorientating speed to overwhelm his opponents. Watch out for ‘the Red Fist of Freedom’, a spinning lungblower, and his ‘Such Great Heights’ phoenix splash.

#PsyBorg, the highly-touted Quadrant Four tag team comprising of Valkyrie Parker (@amirawrestler) and Borg III Chestnut (@safirewrestling), join GSW as #Voyagers 14 and 15. A fixture on the independent combative theatre scene over the past half-decade in both Quadrant Three and Four, this team of ex-lovers from different galaxies has enraptured fans thanks to the tumultuous drama that has surrounded them. Although their romantic entanglement is now (at least publicly) over and - at times - it is a struggle to remain even civil, their success between the bells in the Upper Quadrants has been unparalleled. With tandem competition in the Lower Quadrants dominated in recent years by Killer’s Kiss and Hurcann Spirit, the opportunity for these dream matches will bring eyes onto #theSeagull on a galactic scale.

Parker, a half-Vulpan and half-Psytrek, is renowned for a hard-hitting style that utilises a myriad of lightning-fast and heavy-handed strikes. A further threat are the abilities afforded to her by the Psytrek half of her genealogy, including - but not limited to - telepathy (confirmed) and telekinesis (rumoured). Although prohibited by the Truffaut Accords, there are many manners in which Valkyrie can use these abilities to help herself and her partner before matches even start. Chestnut is a cybernetic Vorowind: tall, lean, bronze-skinned, and with a single horn like a rhino’s. Her bionic components comprise less than 8% of her being, in line with combative theatre regulations, but these robotic modifications have long been known to enhance Borg’s already impressive physiology. Watch out for the bone-crunching ‘Fision’ high-low attack, usually followed by a three-count or - in less merciful scenarios - Chestnut’s ‘Hard Times’ crossface submission.

We are proud and vaguely terrified to announce Kulvoxx the Destroyer (@KulvoxxDestroys) as #Voyager 6. The infamous Kulvoxx is of the Kalmar, one of the smog species from the void of Quadrant Eight, and has curated a mighty reputation in the smoke-wrestling scene popular in Q8’s clustered nebulae. It is currently unclear how the methods employed frequently and freely in these specialist bouts will be modified to adhere to the Truffaut Accords, given that most of this invisible wisp of gas’ recorded victories have come by a method of a knockout by poisoning (a severe rule violation in traditional combative theatre).

Kulvoxx’s appearance in GSW is also notable as their first booking since acquittal of charges related to black hole manipulation, where they were tried in absentia at the Galactic Court of Justice at the Vague. Kulvoxx will compete as a ‘kaiju’ in GSW, although it is not immediately clear what restrictions, if any, this will place on them.

#Voyager 17 is Briareus (@hecatoncheires_real), a gigantic, many-limbed creature that comes straight out of Greek myth to join GSW’s burgeoning ‘kaiju’ division. Standing at well over seven feet tall and weighing in excess of six hundred pounds (with seventy percent of that being arms), Briareus is most renowned for assisting Zeus in his victory over Cronos and the Titans, but has since developed a niche performing in x-on-one handicap matches throughout the Upper Quadrants. As the child of Sky and Earth, Briareus commands unfathomable power and deceptive speed (for a big guy), and has not developed a finishing move through a lack of a need for one.
