With raw going too 3 hours a night and smackdown stars frequently going too and from raw shows every week why not just get rid of smackdown? Back in the early 2000's it was great and distinguished from raw and now boths shows really are the same except for the logos and blue rings posts.

anyone else bet that smackdown will be finished with in 3 years maybe?

It won't be "finished" for a long, long time (even if it eventually goes to WWE.com or Youtube), but it doesn't need it's own championship and already has lost a lot of it's steam in recent years. I think it's a good idea to wind-down the show, but WWE doesn't need to do away with it completely. It can still be used as a platform to build the mid card and young talents. I really don't like it being used to further story lines between A-list wrestlers though, that stuff should really be regulated strictly to Raw.

Hopefully not. SmackDown should start getting alot better now that guys like Sin Cara and Christian are back to bulk out the roster and the addition of Del Rio permanently in the main event scene.

Well Del Rio deserves his own show and for a majority of his career on SD! he's owned that place without having held a title there. So I want SD! to stay so it can be Del Rio's home. Forget Orton he can put over Del Rio if he wants to face him.

OP is right, it's run it's course.

Scrap it and make a new show/push nXt as #2.

Too much of a jobber stigma attatched to Smackdown nowdays, it's pretty much the trash leftovers from Raw.

Why would you scrap an established brand push a new one? Why not retool the brand?

This doesn't need done either way. Smackdown makes them tons of money in ticket sells allows them to have a great deal of people you wouldn't have otherwise. Majority of the midcard and all of the undercard would have to be fired if smackdown were to go away.

In 2000 it was distinguished from RAW? How the split didn't occur until 2003 so if it was working from 00-03 then it can work without a brand split.

No reason to cut a revenue source that's just stupid.

it was distingused from raw in 2000 for some of the following reasons

the stars who were signed were restricted too smackdown (meaning they could not appear on raw) unless they were drafted in a lottery
we had 2 different sets which gave raw and smackdown a different unique feel
from what memory serves they even had a video game just about wwe smackdown back in the early 2000's.

That did not happen till 2003 did you even read my post?

They are slightly different the rings different not that this is a huge deal in my opinion

It was called Smackdown but featured the full roster. Just like Xbox had one that was called RAW and featured the whole roster (though this game sucked)

Yet Smackdown was arguably the better show in terms of wrestling etc a few years ago? Did you fail to see how many times the WHC main evented over the WWE or something?

Besides why push NXT over SD when SD gets better ratings than NXT, and did even when NXT was on TV. Come on man, use your brain, that's a stupid idea.

Key words being "a few years ago".

General Motors were one of the worlds biggest companies "a few years ago".
MySpace was everyones favourite social network "a few years ago".
Leeds United were a big club "a few years ago".

Times change, and Smackdown hasn't been of use for a long ass time. I don't think it's as lucrative as you want to think it is, and will be worth even less when ratings keep sliding while they push bland vanilla midgets on there.

So why cut it why not retool it? Why spend time and money creating a new brand instead of rebuilding the one you have?

You do realize that getting rid of it will cost them more money than you think?

No point 'rebooting' it, it's just turd polishing.

Didn't work for Nitro, won't work here.

Just wait for the WWE Network to launch then phase out SD, send the handful of wrestlers worth a damn to Raw. Cut the rest or bin them to Superstars.

So you'd cut out an entire show fire half the roster so that TNA could sweep them up (though that wouldn't help) Lose ticket sales. Merchandising. Brand value and why? Cause you don't like the show cause you think it's second rate to RAW guess what it's supposed to be second to RAW if you think that NXT is better then it must be because you love that it's full of
He should go back to ROH where bland jobbers like him are worshipped.
That you preach against.

Do you like RAW do you like the WWE at all cause all you do is shit on everything about the product.

So what you're saying is get rid of Smackdown in place of something new, what exactly is this something new? If the concept of NXT is so good in your eyes then why the hell did it never beat SD in the ratings.

Yeah, NXT was something new, and it still couldn't beat SmackDown in the ratings. Whether the quality is good or not, it's the second highest rated Wrestling Show in the UK, it has, and always will be a good brand for building guys ready for the RAW main event (CM Punk for example), so WHY oh WHY would they get rid of it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
