Nah, I think you misunderstand how much people loathed Cena in 2007. People hated Cena, not babyface. Hated the man with a passion. Even if he did get cheers right away, a solid 6 months to a year with a heel character still might have gotten those fans to like him enough to keep cheering him in the bayface turn afterwards. Trying anything is better than a booed babyface. Edge shouldn't have gotten cheered over him in Boston at SummerSlam. That's just poor booking.

07 is actually one of my favorite Cena years ever tbh I woulda have been cheering the shit out of him at a live event bc he was consistently putting on great matches and I don't think I would have been as entertained by a heel

I think the Nexus angle was the best time to turn him, would have been really similar to nWo with Hogan but fuck it it was 14 years later, you can recycle angles

May have saved that angle from falling so flat after it started strong too

Also just from a business stand point he was doing WAY too much make-a-wish shit for WWE to seriously consider turning him, not saying I agree with that but they obviously put that publicity really high on their priorities and doubt they ever considered a heel turn mostly from that

I would have had Cena out longer than a week when he got fired by Barrett and had him return as a heel and cut scathign promos on the fans for allowing a group like the Nexus into their homes.

Nah, I would just have Barrett have cut promos about how the crowd hasn't liked Cena in years and get under his skin and Cena finally see the light and say fuck y'all, maybe beat Barrett and become the new leader of the Nexus

I love Make-a-Wish as much as the next guy, but you can't that charity stuff get in the way of good business. If they stop liking Cena, they can ask for whomever the top baby was at the time. It should also be noted Hollywood Hogan still did MAW as a heel.

At least the combination of cheers and boos created and interesting atmosphere every time he wrestled
