Fantasy Nascar 2021

I am aware that there is a bit of time before the Nascar season gets underway, but the ground work being laid now could prove to make this series a great success.

Depending on how many people sign up - will determine how many draft picks everyone will be given.

The draft will work on the basis of a snake draft. Selectors will pick drivers from all three of the elite series that race under the Nascar umbrella. The Cup Series, Xfinity Series and the Truck Series.

Each race your pool of drivers will be eligible to earn points in a number of different methods. You will not be able to freely change your drivers, with changes made available during 'Trade Zones' with the order of selection and changes always being offered to the user at the bottom of the rankings and working upwards.

Scoring System

The following points are awarded to the final positions of the driver involved in race.

Additional point are awarded/removed for the following reasons:

Stage One Winner: 15 pts [changed after Second Competition Caution]
Stage Two Winner: 15 pts [changed after Second Competition Caution]
Laps Led: 0.25 pts per lap
Laps Led At Road Course: 0.5 pts per lap [changed after Second Competition Caution]

Draft Update #1

Kevin Harvick #4 (Stewart-Haas Racing) won the honour of being the first man man selected in the 2021 Fantasy Nascar Draft.

The 2nd overall pick would be Brad Keselowski #2 (Team Penske), 3rd overall pick Kyle Busch #18 (Joe Gibbs Racing) and 4th overall pick Chase Elliot #9 (Hendrick Motorsports). Interestingly Haza, Juice and Doom all picked previous Cup Series Champions with Harvick (2014), Keselowsi (2010) and Busch (2015&2019) with clear intent that the trio have the ability to be able to consistently pick up points throughout the season. More interestingly, Kyle Busch has scheduled to also take part in the Xfinity and Truck Series which makes the 3rd overall pick a very point effective selection. Chris select our reigning champion Chase Elliot - and hoping to repeat #9s success in the coming season.

The next two picks would also see two more former Cup Series Champions also being selected with 5th overall pick Joey Logano #22 Team Penske (2018 winner) and 6th overall pick Kurt Busch #1 Chip Ganassi Racing (2004 winner) names being added to the list meaning that from our first six picks, everyone has previously been a Cup Series Champion (Kyle Busch twice).

The 7th overall pick was Noah Gragson #62 Beard Motorsports who will be driving on a limited schedule in the Cup Series for the first time this season, meaning that Grayson is the first draftee without a Cup Series Championship. His main involvement will come from him driving the #9 JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. The 8th and final pick of the first round is Ryan Newman #6 Roush Fenway Racing (with the 2014 Cup Series Runner up) completing the first round of selection. As it stands the snake will now continue back up the draft order starting with LadyHotRod and ending with Haza.

Focusing on the data 50% of our first round drafts are powered by Ford in 2021, whilst only one selection choice is Toyota powered. The team that has the most representation is Team Penske with 2nd pick Keselowski and 5th pick Logano being the only two team mates currently selected. Kyle Busch is the first selection who will be racing for a limited number of racing in both the Xfinity and Truck Series, whilst Noah Gragson is the only current draftee who will have a full-time entry in the Xfinity and a limited schedule in the Cup Series. ​

Draft Update #2

The 9th overall pick would be Kyle Larson #5 (Hendrick Motorsports), 10th pick Bubba Wallace #23 (23XI Racing), 11th Ryan Blaney #12 (Team Penske) and 12th pick Martin Truex, Jr #19 (Joe Gibbs Racing). Truex has 27 career wins in the Cup Series, Larson has 6, Blaney had 4 and Bubba Wallace has yet to claim a career win in the series. However, all four selections are bound to pick up points on a weekly basis so are strong pick for everyone's squads.

The 13th pick was Denny Hamin #1 (Joe Gibbs Racing), 14th pick Alex Bowman #88 (Hendrick Motorsports), 15th pick Chase Briscoe #14 (Stewart-Haas Racing) and 16th Aric Almirola #10 (Stewart-Haas Racing). Hamlin has a total of 44 career wins in the Cup, Bowman has 2, Amirola also has 2 whilst Chase Briscoe will be making his Cup Series Debut in 2021.

With a total of 44 career wins and having finished 4th in the Championship Round at the end of last season - Denny Hamlin for many will be seen as quite the steal as the 13th overall pick.
