Dying Light 2 Gameplay Trailer Released, Out in December

Fans have been anxiously awaiting news regarding Dying Light 2, the second entry in Techland’s zombie apocalypse role-playing game. During a stream today focused on the game, the sequel was shown off even more and given a December 7, 2021 release date.

Now officially known as Dying Light 2 Stay Human, the sequel to the 2015 game has a much more expanded scope, bringing back many of its parkour and RPG gameplay elements into a world that’s much bigger, has many more choices for players to make, and includes tons of new environments and weapons to boot. During the “Dying 2 Know” stream, Techland detailed more of the game, alongside releasing a brand new trailer for the game that shows off much of the progress the game has gone through, including how events from the first game will set the stage for Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

In the sequel, players will take on the role of Aidan Caldwell, a resident of one of the last bastions of mankind after 98% of the population has been lost to the virus that has turned people into zombie-like creatures. As you search for answers to your own past secrets, players will meet new characters, including a handful of new factions that can help shape the city that you inhabit.

Alongside new characters and places to explore, new infected enemies are also present. Because the game takes place years after the original game, infected monsters have become mutated, resulting in much scarier and more dangerous foes to take on. Much like the original game, players will also have tons of decisions, with each of them being vital and having its own series of consequences.

Techland also announced a series of special editions along with the release date for Dying Light 2 Stay Human. There are three different retail editions of the game, including the regular game, a Digital Deluxe Pack, and a Collector’s Edition of the game that includes a concept art book, a Steelbook case for the game, a UV flashlight, and a statue that features Aidan Caldwell fighting off infected monsters.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is available for preorder now and will launch on December 7, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

This game looks pretty amazing IMO, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait

I really liked the first Dying Light, it took all the great elements of Mirror's Edge and added in an horror aspect with zombies. Just a genius concept.

The combat was also like super fun from my memory.

Looking at 500 hours if you're wanting to finish everything. Obviously a lot shorter if you focus on the main quest, but that's pretty insane. At least you're getting your money's worth if you're in to that sort of thing.

The parkour in the first game was great. I sometimes reinstall the game just to roam the map and dropkick zombies off roofs for a couple of hours.

Yea, I'd say that was my selling point of the game. I was heavy obsessed with Mirror's Edge for the longest time. So when they told me I could roam the rooftops in that parkour style whilst killing zombies as well, I was all in.

I started it today because I was getting a little bored with Cyberpunk and I can't believe you actually have to unlock sprinting! Imagine a game heavily relying on parkour that doesn't allow you to run

Techland's parkour heavy, open-world, zombie brawl Dying Light 2 will soon get a photo mode and new game plus mode.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Dying Light 2's lead game designer Tymon Smektała addressed the biggest requests fans have had since the game's release in February.

When the topic of photo mode, a new game plus mode and additional tiers of difficulty came up, Smektała confirmed: "those are definitely things that are on the table currently and that are being worked on."

Smektała continued: "I don't want to go into too many specifics here... but very soon, people will start seeing those things being added in one form or another into the game."

Smektała also touched on Dying Light 2's upcoming story DLC, and the theories he has seen being shared online about what it will entail. Turns out, Techland has some surprises up its sleeve.

"We don't want to fall into this repeating pattern where players will kind of know what to expect from us," Smektała said.

"For example, the first story DLC that we have promised, I've seen a lot of speculation online about what it will be, and I can say confidently that they... weren't close to the mark."

Curious.

Techland has previously assured fans it will continue to support Dying Light 2 for at least five years after its release. This guarantee from the developer promises new stories, locations and in-game events, as well as a hint that more items will ultimately become available during this time.

While Dying Light 2 is yet to release on the Nintendo Switch, the game has seen some impressive numbers across other platforms since its debut.

On its launch, Dying Light 2 saw 160,202 concurrent players on Steam. To put this into perspective, that is 3.5 times that of Dying Light 1's all-time peak, and 50 percent bigger than that of Capcom's Resident Evil Village.
