Both. I originally began reading about Bardock, as I was bored, and I saw a thing about Gine, who was his wife and the mother of Goku, Raditz, and Turles. So I was like who the hell is Gine and Turles and just went down further down the wormhole from there. As well as I have begun to rewatch the orignal series as my oldest nephew has gotten into Dragon Ball Z and I was trying to remember everything I knew before.
