Defending Punk

I'm going to say this because it's been bothering me for a while.

He's not the best in the world.

The best in the world doesn't botch moves in nearly every match. I've seen it happen week after week, he tries to hard to be perfect and it backfires almost every single time. If he was smart, he'd leave the television matches to the mediocre and really leave it all on the big stage. That would solidify him as someone to see in the climax... instead of making him look like he's trying to do everything at once in the span of 8-9 minutes before the commercial break. That's just on the wrestling side.

How can you get behind this guy as a legitimate face, when all he does is pout his face and insult whoever is standing in front of him. Every single time he's got a mic in his hand, he has go constantly remind people of the storm he caused last year, but that's been gone for months. It's not working anymore, and frankly... the ratings show it. It's not just me, sitting behind here on the keyboard. The viewers are going down, and it's been going down since he's got the title ironically enough. The Punk/Bryan match this week gained viewers, but it was bad for the timeslot.

His biggest claim to fame in the months that he's been champion is ripping on a washed up nobody General Managaer... and that was the GOOD part. His feud with Del Rio sucked, his feud with Ziggler hasn't done JACK SHIT for Ziggler. At the Rumble, they barely even talked about Ziggler being the opponent in the match preview. It really fucking annoys the shit out of me.

I like CM Punk, I think he's terrific. But he needs to be a heel, and you all need to stop hugging his nuts like his balls sweat gold, because they don't. If he stopped trying to have a five star cram-fest every week, he'd do a lot better job of making his real high stage matches matter.

Wow for the first time, I'm stunned. This is actually something that was well put and this was told very well. I'll admit at times that I miss Punk as a heel. He was the sadistic crazy looking straight edge guy. Even though people thought he wasn't that great, I thought his Nexus work was still great to watch and the Straight Edge Society was amazing. If only they got behind the SES more, it still annoys me. I agree the feuds have been lackluster especially how disappointing it was not using Ziggler more. A back and forth with Ziggler would have been gold, but they needed to use Funkman which annoys me. I'm not saying Punk is perfect but he has made the business what it has been lacking that is unpredictability. Did anyone call him doing a shoot on Johnny Ace few weeks back with Foley in the ring. I'm not going to say he's perfect and I'm not even a long Punk fan. I've been a fan since I got back into wrestling in 2008 (out of from WM 22 to about Jericho feuding with HBK). The heel turn made him into like my top five favorite active guys. Then he continued to move up and he became like the guy for me. I'll admit I've been disappointed with the feud progression at times but will see what he does with Jericho. You make some great points though and really hit the good spots. I'm not sure about the botching, but I've seen a few moments. He still needs to go another three to four years strong before their is any chance to replace Jericho as my top guy so believe I'm not all over his nuts. I'm jut sick of people blasting him because he's the real deal.

Exactly! I cringe every time I hear him say he is the best in the world. Sure, he is a great wrestler and pretty good on the mic but generally, I don't think he is the biggest deal in the WWE right now. He has been pretty lame lately. I simply don't think he is that terrific on the mic. Yes, he is better than a lot of people but I would get pretty annoyed when people would compare him to someone excellent like Stone Cold Steve Austin. Punk is definitely one of the better performers in the WWE right now but he still has a long road to go before he convinces me that he is anywhere near being the best in the world. I did think his feud with Triple H was pretty interesting and him leaving the company temporarily was definitely worth watching but that was pretty uneventful when he came back to the WWE two weeks after his big departure.

Idk about the whole knocking him for the Dolph feud cause for one how has it not helped Dolph? He beat or "beat" Punk every time leading up to the match at the rumble. He went from the U.S title to being in a WWE title match and probably won't be the last. Punk is a now guy anyways not a guy past his prime who needs to put guys over. You could question that maybe Dolph needed to look better in their title match since at the end of it he looked more like a prop for the feud with Johnny but besides that Dolph looked great in the whole feud it's WWE's fault for not putting more effort into their actual feud instead of more so focusing on the Punk/Johnny aspect.

The only true rating getters seem to be Cena, Kane, HHH, and Undertaker. Rock gets them when he shows up.

Punk will go through the motions untill WM, and will promptly be slid down the pecking order, or sent to SD. I blame this mostly on WWE creative and Booking, but it doesn't change the fact that the top brass at WWE will still veiw Punk as unviable to carry Raw. Orton should come back to Raw in late April as his replacment. The WWE went out of their way to accomodate Punk by moving Orton and I don't think they feel it has payed off. The WWE doesn't even trust him to close Raw most of the time, as a knee jerk reaction to people leaving Raw in the second hour. The WWE certainly won't blame this on wtrestlers who are not main eventing. They will put this squarely on the shoulder of the WWE Champ. Unfair, but true.

That part I bolded has zero to do with the conversation here.

Well, it was in responce to a post that said the Punk and Bryan match drew subpar ratings for that time slot. So I went on to list the only stars who seem to grab the ratings attention that apparently WWE doesn't feel Punk is getting. It has everything to do with the rational behind the rest of my post.

I enjoy Punk, he rekindled the mark in me last year. But even I can honestly say, he hasn't been quite the draw one would've thought he would be.

I don't get how people can say that. He's had a filler feud with Ziggler, and a feud with the GM. Obviously some casual fans don't really care for Ziggler since he hasn't done anything to look like a legit threat, and Ace is just hated. Can you blame people from tuning away? I don't.

Also, when was the last time Cena wasn't on a pay per view and it was headlined by someone other then Punk? Really can't use the draw power argument until the TLC buy rates come out.

The match drew over 200k more viewers? Didn't lose it like Orton/Ziggler and most of the other matches on Raw.

TLC buyrate did come out it was like 200 k which is was apparently beyond WWE's expectations due to no Cena on the card thinking it would be the lowest of the year.

Exactly. I highly doubt it was the lowest ordered PPV of the year.

I think people are on the 'Hate Punk' bandwagon for the simple fact he's not coming out and shooting every week, but that's the thing.. If he did that, you'd hear 'All he does is talk shit during his promos' etc. It's really true what they say though, you can't please everyone.

Punk is still one of the freshest characters in the E, and hasn't even begun being stale.

He is worrying me with some of the corny stuff he has done though such as the nana singing and some of the jokes. Dunno if he is being fed that stuff, doing it on his own or what but just needs to be his natural self as he can be funny effortlessly

That's you opinion, not a fact... Don't go getting all Chad25 on us now.

I really, really hate this theory. Have you ever thought some people 'hate' CM Punk purely because they don't find him entertaining? Hell I remember reading around forums at the time when he pulled off his original shoot and people still weren't entertained by him and that's fair play.

I just hate this notion of people being grouped together as haters or whatever purely because they don't enjoy someone.

I do think the Punk hate just stems from the fact that the IWC will turn on a guy as soon as they get a push they have done with Zack Ryder, CM Punk is now the John Cena for the IWC where half love him and half hate him, Daniel Brian is the same there's a lot of hate for him going around which is crap because he's been going fine in my view.

Now I don't go through people's post but if you go through forums there will be people who a year or 2 ago who were creaming themselves on the net at the mere thought of Punk and now its like he's a main event guy he sold out its stupid.

Dont like him, never have (apart from his commentary on nXt while he was injured)

Hes a hack, blatently stole Vince Russo's gimmick.

That being said hes a decent talker and wrestler, I don't see how hes 'stale'.
