Competition Idea

An idea struck me as I was sending pm's out on WZ to recruit for WS. I thought of an idea of a competition where whoever can bring the most members over here, win some sort of prize. Maybe free vip or free rep or some sort of function. Basically they would come over here and state in there new member thread, who sent them. Whoever gets the most, wins the competition.

When members sign up, they can state who referred them to the forum by entering it in the 'referrer' box.

Pretty certain we did have a reward system for this at one point. Will check with the other staff and post our official stance as soon as possible.

Either way, refer enough members to the forum and I can't see it being overlooked.

We can work on something, just have to get some rules down for how it would worked. We tried it after the merge with free VIP being the prize and it failed badly. Might have a DVD/Blu Ray be the prize and give it another go.

Never been a fan of these competitions because you have to do the balancing act between how many people you've made join, but how many of them have stayed consistently active.

In addition to that just because you get quanity doesn't mean they're quality.

Quality according to who?

And if the whole point of the contest is to boost the forum's activity, then you can be picky about quality later.

Quality as a consensus. I also don't think it'd pay off to have thousands of Chads (who really is the only person that I currently consider not a quality poster) running around just for an activity boost.

The thing with these that has me iffy on them is people join and never post. Can't expect much in terms of quality really just have to hope you get a few good poster out of the deal, as the majority of wrestling fans on forums aren't to bright.

Maybe we do a whoever starts the most thread that get more than x number of responses.


Also just saying but the DVDs tend to get more participants.

There's already going to be a DVD contest for March similar to the last win, with members needing X Number of post to be entered into a drawing, with 3 winners this time.

Activity from the current member base is great, and would like to run a DVD recruitment contest like this, just need to figure out a way to make it worth it for the site, with rules and criteria.

i don't like the idea of giving someone a dvd just because they got some new users to join, Why can't you just do it for free just to help the forum out.

Me and break went on WZ a couple of days ago trollin the shit out of that forum trying to get people to join here, and you don't hear us asking for dvd's.

Same issue with the getting x number of posts to qualify that's why deuce was spamming up the forum when he joined.

Referral contests are very tough to run. Someone may refer three people here that join but never post and then another person may refer only two but they post 50 times this month and yet the first guy would win which isn't fair. We would need to do some thinking about it before bring in a competition like this.
