Chris Jericho has wrapped filming on a wrestling-themed horror film titled "Dark Match."

According to a report from Deadline, Jericho leads a cast that includes Ayisha Issa (Transplant), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries), Michael Eklund (Wynonna Earp) and Jonathan Cherry (Goon). Jericho also serves as Executive Producer on the project.

"A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match," reads a description of the film.

Dark Match is being produced by Dept. 9 Studios and recently finished filming in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was written and directed by Lowell Dean (Wolfcop) and produced by John MacDonald.

“It’s been a blast filming in Edmonton and working every day with such a talented cast and crew. I’m excited for the opportunity to work with Dept.9 Studios and for the producer’s support in bringing Dark Match to life,” Dean said to Deadline.

Jericho has appeared in films such as 2010's MacGruber, 2015's Sharknado 3, and 2019's Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,

U.K.-based sales and distribution outfit Blue Finch Films has boarded worldwide rights, excluding Canada, to 1980s-set wrestling action-horror “Dark Match.”

The film is headlined by professional wrestler and rock musician Chris Jericho and written and directed by Lowell Dean (“Wolfcop”). The film will launch later this year with its festival premiere to be announced imminently. Blue Finch will begin sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.

In the film, a small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match. When the lights go down, Miss Behave and her friends are pitted against each other in a real fight for their lives. The cast also includes Steven Ogg (“The Walking Dead”) and Ayisha Issa (“Transplant”).

The film was produced by Dept. 9 Studios’ John K. MacDonald, Don Depoe, and Michael Feehan, Michael Peterson and Rhonda Baker.

Dean said: “When I wrote ‘Dark Match’ I questioned if it was too crazy to get made, but within months I was on set in Edmonton, with a hard working cast and crew all pouring their (fake) blood and sweat in the wrestling ring to bring it to life. I can’t wait to share this film with the world.”

Mike Chapman of Blue Finch Films added: “We quickly fell in love with the film’s heady blend of action and the occult upon reading Lowell’s page turning script. The whole team has put together a genre film that delivers on all fronts and will thrill audiences.”

Jericho recently teamed with author and filmmaker Jay Bonansinga on psychological thriller “Self Storage.”

Blue Finch’s international slate also includes the Steven Soderbergh presents film “Cold Wallet,” Sydney-winning “Birdeater” and and SXSW-winning “Oddity.”
