On an episode of Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray And AEW Backstage coach Mark Henry talked about bullying and shooting as a way to beat respect into people.

A post describing it and even a link to the audio can be found here:

Honestly, I am actually concerned about this. It is nothing new to hear a legend/veteran talk about the "good old days" and how "men were men" and etc complaining about people being soft. It is tone deaf to the change in society since then and also has not aged well (granted I get the idea of trying to teach respect/humility to younger guys, but there are better ways to do it). The kicker is that Mark Henry is a figure backstage in AEW and is more than likely signed to be a mentor. I'm worried that if he acts like this and genuinely believes that it is okay and needed to do this, then it can create a negative environment for the performers and push wrestling backwards.

Genuinely, what do you guys think?

Some people will defend it, but yeah I mean it’s kind of a bad look. Depends on the bullying. Some of the stuff I heard JBL did in the showers is really fucked up and a bit to far tbh.

I'll only give this a listen if someone time stamps but yeah that's a lame thing to hear, especially being as big a Mark Henry fan I am. I wouldn't worry tooo much about AEW talent having to go through that though, I think the company heads would weed the real assholes out. It comes off as a more open environment where pricks aren't swept under the rug and protected to me, than WWE.

I love when words like bullying are used instead of shooting and hazing - for something that everyone knows has existed in wrestling for ever. The truth is - its normally done to wrestlers that wrestler stiff or fuck up. Just another article about people upset carney folk act like carney folk

I mean hazing is literally bullying dawg. wrong then. wrong now. just because it happened doesn't mean it's cool or that these old tarts need to try to rationalize shitty behavior as being cool. all I gotta say about it though

Hazing and bullying are very different. Most sport have an element of hazing with rookies and new players, normally harsher dependent on the attitude and level of commitment of the individual. Bullying is just targeting someone for the sake of it.

yeah hazing is def bullying, its almost always some sort of humiliation or abuse to intimidate rookies to ''respect'' older players or vets. its toxic masculinity frat boy bullshit, and it absolutely is a form of bullying, which is why most schools you know, banned that shit. strongly agree to disagree on your definition of bullying :draper2

Hazing is generally about inclusion. Bullying is about exclusion. When it crosses the line of one, it stops being the other.

The ends don't justify the means and the methods are often the same but I digress. I've made my opinion clear on the matter and I'll leave it at that from my end.

Hazing and bullying are bullshit. Just saying. Just because it was done to you doesn't mean you should perpetuate the cycle again. Break that shit up bruh. If someone wants to be involved in a fraternity, fucking let them. Don't enforce a stupid ideological and psychological torture game on them for your own fucking satisfaction.

Be the broken bond, not the one that keeps it going.

This reminds me of how piece of shit people always defend themselves by saying things like "my daddy use to beat me all the time" and other dipshit stuff.

Abused people are dipshits?

Wow, that's quite the hot take.
