The last month or so has seen our social lives utterly devastated by the release of Skyrim. And with Mass Effect 3 on the horizon, we can look forward to continuing to avoid our friends and loved ones when we finally stop playing in the snow with elves and move on to shooting/sleeping with aliens. It's probably a good thing that the release dates of Bethesda and BioWare's blockbusters never seem to overlap, but some rotten little part of me wishes they would be forced to go toe to toe in a knock-down, drag-out fight for the privilege of keeping me from getting anything done.

Once upon a time BioWare and Bethesda had a lot in common, but over the last decade or so the two premier Western RPG producers have drifted in such radically different directions that their games could probably be considered completely different species, or at least genres. Sure, we could just agree that different people like different things, and maybe some of us can even like both without any actual conflict of interest, but that's no fun. We'd much rather argue about who would win in a fight.

Of the games of theirs I've played, I give the nod to Bethesda. Fallout 3 is one of the greatest games of the last 5 years. Mass Effect 2 was excellent, but didn't constantly have me coming back for more the way Fallout did.

This was a hard vote for me. One of my top five faves in gaming is Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls is amazing. However, I went with Bioware, strictly, because Fallout 3 had me coming back for more, but Fallout New Vegas... not so much. Elder Scrolls while amazing, for me is too big and I get bored of it easily. Bioware on the other hand, I found Mass Effect to be the "Low End" of there line up and it was just as good as Elder Scrolls. KotOR (both of them) are also in my top five faves, Dragon Age is solidly in my top ten and both of those games had me coming back for more. Another game that I just down loaded on XBL was Jade Empire, which is also a solid title. Beth makes great games, but one out of 5 titles that come to mind that only 1 of them solidly keeps my interest compared to a bunch from Bioware, had to give the nod to Bioware, oh... and can't forget that I'm addicted to The Old Republic, which is the MMO that Bio and EA, released based of KotOR.

I hope you didn't vote against Bethesda because of New Vegas because they didn't even make it, they still published it but it was made by Obsidian.

New Vegas was such a fucking travesty to the Fallout name.

I absolutley adore Skyrim, It is seriously one of my favourite games. The oppurtunities on it are endless and it is so much fun. I've never played Fallout so I will be baseing my vote on how great Skyrim is.

no didn't vote based directly off of Fall Out New Vegas. I just wind up enjoying and getting more in depth with the bioware games.

I loved fallout 3 but not New Vegas. I have skyrim but haven't played it much since SWTOR came out. I had to go with Bioware because most of the RPG games I've played and loved recently were all made by them. They got extra points for making Star Wars games since I'm a huge fan, and they are good.
