I thought this was pretty interesting. I knew Del Rio was a big name in the mexican CMLL/AAA organizations, however i did not know he also competed in MMA. I can't be the only one that didn't know that about him?? Plus some interesting amatuer background, and family history. Figured i'd share.

I did....He didn't last too long. Seems like he wasn't a complete flop in MMA.

No, but all his wins were up against cans. Cro Cop was his only real big challenge.

He was quite an accomplished amateur wrestler who placed at a Pan Am Games and was training for the 2000 Sydney Summer Games before Mexico pulled funding for amateur wrestling. Yeah, he hasn't beaten anyone of note, but he did go the distance with solid MMA vet Kazuhiro Nakamura at PRIDE 27.
